What wireless modem is in the machine itself? Is wireless-tools installed? We can't start to help you without an answer to the first question anyway.

Many machines come with modems that don't have Linux drivers, however the open source community has developed many native drivers and NDIS wrappers. A Google search for “wireless linux” turns up plenty of relevant and useful results.

Unless I'm missing something, that's what you connect to from your Linux machine. What's the Linux machine supposed to connect to it /with/?

sorry the wirelessmoed/router is connected to a different computer via USB cable. I connect to the modem/router using a wireless NIC,
PCI card PC54g2, made by MSI , i think it is based on the is based on the Ralink 2500 chip.

There's a few results for that card + linux on Google, have a troll through them to get started.
