I'm just starting college and there are a number of us who dont have a laptop yet. Having spoken to one of the lecturers about it and he sugested to buy in bulk.
Has anyone of you done this before, where the savings significant? Does the likes of komplett, elara, overclockers other sites mentioned in the stickies i cant think of (to name a few) deal in this kind of way?
Seeing im the it rep of my class its going to be down to me to find a supplier with a good enough deal.
I'm not sure what im looking at spec wise but ill leave that for a diff thread.
Budget is prob around 1200-1400 per laptop.

Does the college use a particular supplier... i.e. Do they buy in bulk? If so, ask that lecturer to ask about buying the laptops, and use the college's clout...

You won't get a major discount for buying in bulk as the margins are so tight in the computer industry at the moment.

Call up Dell sales directly. Generally get a better deal than online if you know someone has a business.

I'll look into getting something via college next time i see the lecturer.
I was hoping i could avoid going with dell tbh.
I'm still doing a bit of research on what to get and i might send of some emails or call places to see what they can do.

A Private VAT registered business (or College) could negotiate a bulk discount, but remember they can also claim back 21% VAT ! a substantial saving they could ALSO pass on too you ;) .

But would they not have to charge you the VAT?

Why should they, they order the goods in bulk and pay vat on their purchase to the supplier, then they offset the vat or claim it back on their accounts.

Therefore, they can sell the items to you [VAT Free] giving you 21% off the full retail price ;) , as Karoma already stated.

It is perfectly legal, as long as the bulk purchaser is VAT registered, gets a VAT receipt from the supplier. This shows the amount of VAT paid, which is the amount of discount that can be given to you and your friends.
