New Developments in Dundalk

I'm considering moving to Dundalk early next year and having read some of the topics here, I hope someone can advise...

I know the town quite well, but am not familiar enough with the housing market. Any info on new delvelopments coming up in the new year in Dundalk and surrounding areas? I'm looking for a 4 bed detatched house.

Seems to me from initial enquiries that there are not as many new developments in the town as in other areas e.g. Drogheda?

    Thanks :)

They are building a housing estate behind Mount Avenue but they have only started work on the site not sure when it will be completed.

Is tallanstown beside sextons pub? If not they are building houses there, they should be completed soon.

Dromiskin has a few new developements, the avenue road, dublin road and there is further developments on the red barns road.

As for Drogheda the prices would be up to 30% higher than dundalk with it's proximity to Dublin.

Also Consdier Tullyallen exactly 1 mile from the Motorway and in good traffic 35 Mins from O'Connell Street my sister got a lovely huge house there and there is a lot of urban renewal and infrastructure development in Drogheda.

Although Dundalk is thriving and with the new western bypass the majority of trucks and nothern traffic is now out of it making it 95% easier to naviagte

Thanks for the words of wisdom so far. Will take a drive round Tallanstown at the weekend for a look see... and I'll check how long it takes in the bone shaker to get to Dundalk (the batmobile's being serviced ;) ).

We had looked at a development on the Lower Point Road but on 2nd visit, we 'noticed' the waste water treatment plant tucked away down there. Any problems with it so far?

eamoss, where exactly is mount avenue - is there a landmark/pub that I can look for?

Any feedback on Knockbridge? An agent told me there 'might' be some new developments out there next year.

I live down on the point road the plant is perfect, zero smell and not that ungodly to look at, although the new houses there are very expensive and built on an old WWII german bomb site, where there was a lot of bombs dropped by the german airforce in error in the early 40's.

Lovely place to live if you get a view of the mourne mountains and the cooley's

I liked the Lower Point Road for that very reason woody, felt like you were out in the country with great views, but very accessible to town. In truth, closer to the motorway would suit us better but I imagine that traffic in the town has eased a lot since the western bypass opened.

Traffic has dropped off to about 85% less of what it was and the lower point road is exactly 3 Miles from the start of the motorway either via the coes road or the red barns road

Must be a huge relief to residents to finally see the back of all the trucks etc. Thanks for the info woody. Btw, any idea where Mount Avenue is?

I think it is on the avenue road but dont quote me on that.

It is great now knocks 10 mins off my journey in the morning and that really does count when you land in Dublin

I think Mount Avenue is the Road just after the Derrhale hotel.

By the way is this slowest forum in the world or is it just me?

Yeah Mount Avenue is beside Derrhale hotel or Oriel Park. Now im not sure if this is the same place but if you keep on going down the Carrick Road there is an big entrance with big walls and they are build houses in there.

Just after thinking there they houses witch should be complete by now behind the St. Louis Secondary School.

Hmmm, I'm living in Suil Na Mara at the mo and TBH there have been quite a few incidents during the Summer where the smell from that place would knock you for 6. Though the view is very good.

Thanks one and all. I'll be busy at the weekend - going to do some driving around and find some of these places. Have spoken to some of the agents in the town so will contact more next week.

Word in the local papers has it that the council has just authorised the construction of 20,000+ new houses in the south-west of Dundalk between the Xerox plant and the Ardee road on the far side of the M1. Not sure when development will begin though.
