Very good opener to the series. Looks like it could be returning to the format of the first 3 seasons and not the stanalone episodes that were in season 4.
Surprised to see them kill off Vaughan in the first episode of the new series, didn't know he was leaving the series.

Theres more to that storyline then meets the eye.

    Edit: Well duh wheels... :o

I thought it was rubbish. Absolute crap that could've come from S4. There's only so long a bait-and-switch can be used as a dramatic device in 'Alias' -- it's old and tired. The story was plodding, the retroactive rewriting of Vaughn was silly, the action sequences were poor, and the FX were shoddy. There was zero emotion present for the 'dramatic' moments, particularly between Syd + Vaughn. Is there *any* security checks done @ the CIA/APO anymore, because it seems like anyone can just walk in and flash a fake-looking badge and nobody verifies anything.

The returning regular cast have become so ridiculous and unbelievable. I expected more of the new characters to show up in the opener (or get more than a silly 'this-girl-is-significant' zoom-in), especially with their names all in the credits already. Maybe it'll improve next week when the newer people come on board, but so far, S5 is equally as poor as S4.

    2/10

Oh and with regards the spoiler above zzzzzzzzz

Wasn't impressed much myself. I totally agree with TCamen on the
annyoing zoom-in on that girl. Right, she's significant but - since we've never met her before - why should we care after this zoom in?

The Vaughn thing didn't surprise me - TCamen as much told me it before  - but then I realised I didn't care. He's a dull character and his death lacked any emotional impact. He died on a stupid quest that came out of nowhere and thus had no real interest. Hell they could at least have tried to connect it properly to Rambaldi. Oh and Vaughn better be dead...

I also felt that it lacked any plausibility the show once had. When Vaughn (oh sorry, that's not his name.. bleh...) was taken back in, he escaped far too easily. Maybe for 5x02 they could just have him walk out the front door?

It just lacked anything interesting and showed up poorly next to Smallville's fifth season opener.

Yeah, I felt that it was a weak opening episode as well. But then Alias is the kind of show that takes a while to warm up. Season 4 came good in the end I felt.

Looks like Season 5 is going to be this show's last at any rate - so I'm hoping everyone will put 110% into it and make sure it goes out on a bang!
