Curious about the law wrt to a website that might be put up to show discontent with a company.

Lets assume, all hypothetically, that I had been given a raw deal by motor dealer with the name abcmotors. I feel that they screwed me over in some form and keen to tkae some polite revenge.

So i register www.abcmotorssuck.com and have a site there to tell people of the wonderful car dealership etc.

Is this legal or not? What can the owners of abcmotors do if anything?

I would assume that the fact you are using a (presumably) registered and trademarked name is illegal. For example: flawedmusicplayer.com was originally called ipodnanoflaw.com, but had to change for trademark reasons.

You would also have to be very careful about the content on the site, and make sure that everything is documented and can be backed up if needs be. You have probably seen mods on boards shut down negative references to particular companies quite quickly so boards.ie isn't left open to legal action.

Of course, this probably all depends on whether you are hosting this site in Ireland. Don't know what they could do to you if the site was hosted in Cambodia.

I thought it was legal, sure look at sites like www.verizonpathetic.com (hate site of Verizon), but like eoin_s said it could depend on where it's hosted.
