New bass amp

Ive been looking at getting a new bass amp for over a year now, and i finally have money to do it. But ohm ratings still confuse the hell out of me. I was looking at this GK Backline 600 head and this GK Backline cab. The head produces 300W at 4 ohms, but the cab says its 8 ohm. Would they work?

I was thinking about getting those first, and a cab with a 15" speaker later on (when more money arrives), but until then, using my current laney 120W combos' 15" speaker (which im 99% sure is 4 ohms, must recheck it) as part of the rig. Any help/suggestions?

It will work but at a lower power rating than the 300W (power = R X I X I (thats i squared) if you want to work it out).

You can wire up 2 x 8ohm cabs in parallel and get a 4 ohm impedance for the head output that way. Or get a different cab. Should be fine with the 8ohm cab though. Still plenty of power out of it for most cases.
