Hi, I'm moving to Tullamore soon and will be commuting to dublin city centre. Need to be in work for 8:30-9am. Is the train service that leaves Tullamore at 6:55am any good? or is there a decent bus service??

Am I mad to do this???

    Thanks for any advice...

Some Dept of Education Staff do it the other way around, commutting from Dublin to Tullamore.

I imagine it will have a fair few commuters and early business travellers and would fill up early enough. I don't know whether that would be before or after your stop.

A problem is if you miss the train, the next one doesn't arrive in Dublin until 10:15.

You should be able to get an annual ticket.

    Bus Éireann route 120

    Tullamore
    Edenderry 06:57
    Edenderry 07:15
    Dublin (Busáras, Store St) 09:05

    Next bus is after lunch.
    Yes you are mad.

I agree with almighty Victor too; you're mad. Although I've heard of people who come from Carlow/Athlone.

    jaymzc27,

I do this journey by train-Forget the bus though.

The train gets in consistently at about 8:20-8:25 in to Heuston. From there luas and you'll be in the city centre for 8:40-8:45

I manage to get the 17:15 train from Heuston and am back in Tullamore by 18:20.
You'll get in to a routine soon enough.I find it great for getting some extra sleep.
Its about 220 month for a rail ticket, annual is 2200(set at 10x the price of monthly)

sister used to do this years ago.

You'll have to get used to never seeing daylight in Tullamore from one end of the week to the other during late autumn and winter.

Don't know what sort rolling stock they use nowadays but back when my sister was using the service the carraiges were ancient and heating didn't work.

Both trains I discussed above are pretty ancient but heating is generally not a problem..anyway these days you'll have your coat with ya :)
