I'm extremely peeved today as waited all week to see if the IMC's in Westmeath (in particular the one in Mullingar) would be showing Land of the Dead and they aren't. It's not in any of the cinemas around Longford, Athlone, Mullingar, Tullamore.

Anyone know why they wouldn't be showing it?

Because the locals might get offended, believing it's a documentary about life in West meath ??

IMC are famously dodgy in their film selections, an example being that Mystic River inexplicably opened in IMC in Mullingar about two weeks before it appeared in the Xtravision down the road. It's either something to do with them economising on reels on the films they don't expect to put bums on seats, or the fact that there's some cretin picking the films to show and those to ignore.

I have been dying to see "A History Of Violence" for a while now and it is relaeased in all the major cinemas this weekend except of course my local cinema IMC Dun Laoghaire. Now that is a pretty big ciname and why its not getting released there while they are still showing "Crash" which has been out for ages now is beyond me. Looks like ill be making a trek int town to watch this movie tomorrow night.

That's odd. I watched Cinderalla Man in Dun Laoghaire IMC last week and it was preceded by a trailer for History of Violence - i was looking forward to seeing it there too.

Don't get me started on that sorry excuse for a cinema in mullingar! IMC have no cinematic taste and they always go for the boring, run of the mill Blockbuster bull**** from Hollywood! I really like an indie sort of flick and i always have to wait for it to be released on DVD to watch it. They showed eternal sunshine... and about a week later it was gone. They didn't show Garden State. The list of great films they did not show goes on...

I agree, but they did show Garden State, for about a day.
Gave them a call today and was told that they got Boy Eats Girl instead of Land of the Dead, hmph.
Going to write a letter and complain about the lack of choice.

the Mahon Point cinema here in Cork isn't showing "Land of the Dead" or "A History of violence" for some reason either. Very odd considering it's a big cinema

From what I was told by someone in the know, there's currently an argument between some of the Irish distributors and the American ones (such as New Line Cinema who do "A History of Violence") resulting in certain films, such as "A History of Violence" not being shown in a lot of the cinemas outside of Dublin. Places like Cineworld and UCI are safe because they're under a different group (I think the Savoy group is one of those affected).
