Sick Leave and Social Welfare

I am due to have surgery at the end of October hand have been told by the surgeon that I will be out of work for at least 2 weeks. I have a couple of questions I hope you might be able to help me with.

    1. What is the procedure in claiming welfare?
    2. When do I inform the social welfare about this?
    3. How much welfare am I entitled to?

Sorry if this has been discussed before. I am unable to check with no search facility

It also depends on your employer. A lot of companies will handle all this for you. You just provide the sick note (presuming that scheduled surgery is covered by sick leave?) and they will send it on to the social welfare and work it all out for you. I think that they pay you as normal, and then claim it back from the social welfare.

Check with your HR department first.
