    Westpoint Health and Fitness.....

Loose 6KG in 6 months and you get it free?

What's the catch ? Seems a bit too good to be true ?

It doesn't sound like they're too confident in the ability of their gym to help you lose weight.

I'm refering to the branch at the Blanchardstown Centre. Anyone had any bad experiences with it even ? Is it worthwhile ?

It actually is a clever idea. This is the time of the year people put on most weight, so you are lucky just to stay where you are. People will sign thinking they will get their money back, but most will fail, me thinks :D

there are no catches to this i renewed my annual mambership this week and the offer is also available to me, all they do is weiggh you in your gym attire minus runners, and will then weigh you in again between the 1st and 15th of april and if you are 6 kilos lighter you get 395 euro back, absolutely no catch. mate of mine sister works there and said that roughly 30% of people that took up the offer ealier this year lost the weight and got the money back.

I guess the 70% must be enough to make some profits then.....

When do you get weighed first? When you signup ? Does anyone know when the "offer" expires ?

Do you have to pay for a year and then you get 6 months membership back ? So they get 6 months membership off you anyway ?

Go for a huge slap-up meal beforeyour first gym session, when they weigh you :)
Any branches on the Southside, or any gyms doing this on the Southside?

Carlisle Health and Fitness KCR in Terenure I think is owned by the same crowd so they might be doing it?

6kg is roughly a stone, depends on your start out weight and determination.

Losing that amount of weight in 6 months is a very achieavble target.

I know someone who joined, lost the weight and got a cheque back for his membership.

Are they doing this at Clontarf/Fairview one too?

Go the whole hog - slap up meal, drink gallons of water, long wet hair, heavy cotton tracksuit

    and on the other side

Fast for a few days, sweat every last drop of water jockey style, laxative, enema, shave your complete body and wear a polyester thong to the weigh in

Some exercise might also be require.

What a cute hoor won't do for gym membership .....

Well, it's achievable. But if you start any strength/weight training in those six months you may negate the whole thing - muscle is heavier than fat etc.
So you could lose a stone weight but put on a half of stone muscle.

You get the full years membership back, best bet is to ring them about the offer as Ben Dunne changes offers about every 2 weeks, you have to weigh in within 3 weeks of taking up the offer.

bah! this is discrimination against thin people
easy enough for some lardass to lose a stone, very difficult for someone who is not already overweight.

I'm a member .. always queues for machines.
Are they doing this at Clontarf/Fairview one too?

Hey MorningStar .. you're getting mixed up between Westpoint (Blanchardstown, owned by Ben Dunne) and Westwood (venues in Fairview, sandymount and Lepardstown). Westwood is a it more expensive but there are less queues a little more privacy when excercising.

Does anyone else find the layout of Westpoint a little odd?? Swimming pool ijn the middle and excercise machines around it.

ha, i'm sure they will be in such fits of laughter when they see your malnourished, shivering, hairless body in front of them right before you pass out from dehydration and sprawl spiderlike on the floor with nothing but a polyester thong covering your unmentionables that they will gladly repay you the years membership fee and might even book you for repeat performances to make their other gym members feel better :D

Man, that made me laugh out loud. :D

Totally true though, especially for girls as our weight fluctuates throughout the month. I put up 5lbs in a week and it was gone 7 days later with minimal effort. Even a night out drinking wine would cause me to weigh in about 3lbs lighter the next day due to dehydration (slight dehydration, not bodybuilding dehydration!!!) so you could totally scam your membership back.

That said, I used to be a member here and I DID hate the layout! I think I only used the pool area twice. The first time I was freaked out by the whole gym looking in on top of me, and the second time some weird, completely sleazy guy tried to chat me up in the steam room....never ventured in again!

You know lead is quite malable......
Bets on whether anyone tries to make a lead vest/other underwear?
It wouldn't take that much to loose 6kg.....

if anyone is going to join the gym because of this make sure u haggle with them. I joined last week with it starting off with €395 for 12 months and got it down to €325 for 16 months:D
