Heres how it works. You rate the 16 teams that reached the hurling and gaelic football quarters finals and then any other team that you want to rank. Give the county a score out of 10 BASED ON THIS YEARS PERFORMANCE and make a small comment if you wish. Copy and paste the following:

    HURLING

    Cork -

    Galway -

    Kilkenny -

    Clare -

    Tipperary -

    Waterford -

    Wexford -

    Limerick -

Any other team hurling county of your choice

    GAELIC FOOTBALL

    Tyrone -

    Kerry -

    Armagh -

    Cork -

    Dublin -

    Mayo -

    Galway -

    Laois -

Any other Gaelic Football team of your choice

    Heres mine:

    HURLING

Cork - 10/10. Perfect. Couldnt have asked for a better year.

Galway - 9.5/10. Achieved way more than they expected.

Kilkenny - 7/10. No really vintage KK performance at all this year.

Clare - 8.5/10. Another over achievment for Clare. 2 good wins over Waterford and Wexford though.

Tipperary - 7.5/10. Had a good Munster campaign, but let themselves down in the second half against Galway.

Waterford - 5/10. Really dissapointing. One of the favourites at the start of the year but lost all 3 real competitive matches.

Wexford - 6/10. Had a good chance of doing something this year, but they did their usually nightmarish exit.

Limerick - 6/10 Their improving, but they have to deliver next year.

Any other team hurling county of your choice

    Offaly - 3/10. Oh dear.

    GAELIC FOOTBALL

Tyrone - 9.5/10 Obviously an excellent season. Should have won Ulster though.

Kerry - 7.5/10 They still cant win the 2 in a row, and no real tough battle till the A-I was a huge disadvantage.

Armagh - 8/10 Seriously thought they would do it this year. Had a perfect season before the semi's.

Cork - 8/10 A very good season by their standards, but they must learn to stand up to the big teams.

Dublin - 8.5/10 Won a fairly tricky Leinster title and were minutes away from beating the all irelands champions. Sounds fairly good to me.

Mayo - 7/10 They were never going to reach the heights of last year, but they went down fighting against Kerry.

Galway - 7/10 Probably should have beaten Cork, But looked good nonetheless.

Laois - 6/10 Not reaching the heights expected after 2003. They have to do something next year.

Any other Gaelic Football team of your choice

I'd put Armagh ahead of Kerry. They did beat Tyrone don't forget, and had more challenging matches than Kerry. They won the league too.

Another interesting statistic in relation to Armagh is this:
In 5 out of the last 7 years, the team that knocked Armagh out of the championship, won the All-Ireland:

1999 - Beaten by Meath in the semi-final. Meath won the All-Ireland.
2000 - Beaten by Kerry in a semi-final replay after extra time. Kerry won the All-Ireland.
2001 - Beaten by Galway in the qualifiers. Galway won the All-Ireland.
    2002 - Champions
2003 - Beaten by Tyrone in the final. Tyrone won the All-Ireland.
2004 - Beaten by Fermanagh in the quarter final.
2005 - Beaten by Tyrone in the semi-final. Tyrone won the All-Ireland.

I don't know all that much about hurling but here are my ratings for the season:

ps. I am rating the teams on their performances this year compared to their performance over the last few years.

    GAELIC FOOTBALL

Tyrone - 8.5/10 Perhaps harsh but they did leave Ulster behind them. Had probably the hardest run to the All-Ireland that any team may ever have.

Kerry - 4/10 Won Munster but weren't tested properly in the run up to the final and evetually lost their All-Ireland crown having already lost their league title.

Armagh - 6/10 Won Ulster and the league but left behind the important one behind them.

Cork - 7.5/10 Great season when compared to recent years. Annihilation against Kerry ruined what was a great season for them. I think they'll be back next year.

Dublin - 7/10 Won a Leinster title with the only notable competition being Loais. Have moved forward under Pillar but still need to sort out a key few positions.

Mayo - 4/10 Lost Connacht and were poor in every game but the Kerry one. Hopefully will move forward now that Maughan has gone.

Galway - 7/10 Great new players coming through, won U21 title and are well set up for next year.

Laois - 6/10 Good victory against Derry but have not moved forward since winning Leinster like they should have.

Sorry for just focusing on Mayo but I'd agree with Lemlin here rather than deise59.

The fact that Mayo only lost by 3 to Kerry was due to Kerry totally taking their foot off the pedal, Mayo were never in the game and the fact that they put up a better showing than the '04 All Ireland counts for nothing, no offence to Kerry but a team of 7 year olds would have put on a better performance than Mayo in '04.

I agree with the Maughan gone sentiment also, hopefully a new start.

Saves me bothering to have to do mine.

I'd pretty much agree with all Decie's ratings, except Mayo where I agree including it should 4 rather than 7.

I wouldn't agree with his rating of Kerry. Anything less than an All-Ireland, is poor by their standards, and they lost the league as well.

    Well, that's your perrogative.

Standards Change....and depends what you are measuring these standards against.... History or where the game is now?

They lost 1 game in two years, and were one half of one of the best All Ireland Finals in years, so they deserve due credit as well.
    It takes two to tango.

Yes they are disappointed, but I don't think they should be too hard on themselves either, they were beaten by a tremendous team by 3 points.

It's a better Kerry team now than many All-Ireland winning teams.

    Hurling

Cork 9.5/10-great season, played well and stuck together but no team is perfect

kilkenny 6/10-looks like they never got over last year and were beaten by an up and coming Galway side

Galway 9/10- Great season.Knocked out Kilkenny which is a great achievement. They will be back next year

Clare 8/10 - achieved more than most thought this year.

Offaly - well,no comment.Never liked them, never will like them and won't contend an all ireland final for years...thank God

    Football

Tyrone 9.5/10 - Failed to win Ulster but played 10 matches to win Sam.Showed great spirit and disposed of every team that got in their way after their loss to Armagh.

Kerry 8.5/10 - Reached the final which is substandard for them but failed to bring the glory home.Weren't seriously tested bar Limerick and Mayo somewhat.

Dublin 8/10 - Having moved on from Tommy Lyons,Dublin won Leinster defeating difficult opposition in Wexford and Laois. They drew with Tyrone who won Sam and were close to knocking them out.Showed more determination under Caffrey than they did under Lyons.

Armagh 8/10 - Having won Ulster against Tyrone, many would have expected them to defeat Tyrone again but this wasn't the case.Still a successful season.

Galway 7.5/10 - Winning Connaught against Mayo was the highlight of their season. They let Cork beat them this year having led most of the match

Cork 8/10 - They put it up to Kerry in Munster and came from behind to beat Galway in the quarter final. They reached the semi final which was not expected.

Mayo 6/10 - Got too much criticism from the papers and the critics. Were unlucky against Galway, beat Cavan and got knocked out by Kerry. In that match the last 10 mins were tense.Still it is disappointing for them as I don't think they got over the final from last year.I expect them to come back and reach the semi finals again next year.
