USB Hard Drive External Storage - Maplin

    Hi,

    Anybody used the Maplin USB HardDrive enclosure ?
    Model: zt90X - HD-338

    When i connect it (XP professional) to my USB port, it says it is detected, but does not show up in Explorer - !!! :mad: :confused::o

    It shows in device manager as a USB storage device - without any yellow exclamation marks - puzzling .......

    Any ideas ?

    I would guess you need to format it first :rolleyes: .

    It's already been formatted in the PC as a slave.
    I removed it from the PC to install in the enclosere as a test to see if the thing was worth the effort etc ...........

    Does it require to be formatted again - once installed in the enclosure ?

    That would be a bit silly - if i wished to view a Hard drive , I thought I could pop it into the enclosure - saves opening and fiddling with cables etc..........

    Try setting the jumper to master or Cable-Select.

    Tried both Master and Slave - manual (Ha!) says will work as slave or master.
    Didn't try CS - will do that

    Sh** !

    It works as CS - Now how did that happen ?
    I uninstalled it and reinstalled it - now it works
    Let joy be unconfined :)

    CS must be the solution.

    I've a couple of external drive enclosures from maplins. I have one particular one that always acts up. I have to add and remove it a load of times before it finally loads. Where as its identical twin loads no problem.

    Consistency would make it sooo boring. :rolleyes:
    For an industry that's supposed to have standards, the PC domain seems to be all over the place............

    So is it XP or Maplin is to blame .........

    What bugs me is , it's back to the old " TV from one guy and the arial from another guy story " - they each blame the other for the problem....
