My friend has installed a RivaTNT card into an IBM aptiva machine and now the DVD doesn't work anymore.

As far as I know the Video part is on the main board of the Aptiva.

    Anyone have any ideas?

i'll get back to you hobbes when i get into work.
since i work for ibm and support aptivas, should be no problem finding out how to get it working.
first thing i would do though is make sure that dvd software is installed properly, make sure graphics card installed propperly and make sure drivers are newest.

but since tnt doesnt ship with aptiva, you dont get no free help from me

Hey aren't we in the same Borg collective? You can't charge me. tongue.gif

What the chap has done is setup two hardware profiles. one for watching DVD's (TNT disabled) and one for normal (TNT enabled).

He can't disable the vid on the board, cause it won't work at all. What it looks like is the DVD software is getting confused.

I've had something similar on the mac happen (the DVD software will only allow me show it on one monitor at any one time). I had two large monitors set up to show a movie in my lab but the thing would only let me show on one, so we all ended up watching it on one monitor sad.gif

why did he disable his tnt card?
surely thats only 3d isnt it?
and if it is 2d/3d why not just run through that?
and what happens when you disable the original graphics card?

try removing display drivers in device manager. rebooting, going into bios and setting the on-board-video to disabled.
this will stop it from reinstalling. your monitor will reinstall itself as will your tnt and all should be hunky dorey.

that is if you can actually run dvd through a tnt.
just get a voodoo3. so much easier!

Could it be a BIOS setting ?

you cant disable on board video on aptivas

Yes you can, you can disable them usually via BIOS setting or in Device manager (probably under Display adapters). There's no such thing as non-disablable wink.gif
Anyway, forget about SoftDVD, use the registry hack for Windows media player instead to get a better player. A lot less visual banding in it than in SoftDVD for some reason.
Its up in the regsitry section of 3dspotlight. At least it will be in a few days once the guy updates the article for me, sigh. Least on IOL I could update automatically, sigh

WWMan is correct as far as I know (the guy has already tried) and WWMan would know smile.gif

Hey WWMan, whens the wearable PC's coming out by IBM?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,099 ✭✭✭✭WhiteWashMan

    what wearable pc?
is that like a fashion accessory?

and mcguire, most aptivas that come with onboard video are not able to be disabled in bios. sometimes you can choose the pci slot over the agp as your main graphics card slot and sometimes you cant. there are very few aptivas with bios disable on board video. i think all those were the black stealth machines that came out about 3 years ago
and i would indeed know as i support that shaggin machines.
christ i do about 10 formats a reloads a day and the rest of the times its idiots who are tryin to intall 2 printers, 2 scanners, a second hard drive, a second cd-rw (and want to know why they dont get sound from their second cd but do from their first) and external zip drive and a modem and a network card and then wonder why their pc keeps freezing. i actually had a case like this last week. woman shouted down the phone as to why i couldnt help her unless she took of all the peripherls that werent supported by me. which was just about everything listed above.
im surprised she didnt try to stick on a second monitor and coffee maker as well
