Celerons will do for Word, Excel etc and do it well but if your going to play games, photo editing, divx/xvid encoding then you should consider a Pentium.

My recommendation would be to wait for a Lidl/Aldi offer, it will be dearer, looking at about €1000 without monitor BUT they have always offered the best value for money plus a high spec machine.

What do you want the PC for ?

If its just general use youre fine. Games, movie work etc. and youre boned with it tbh.

Don't expect to be play *any* 3d games at more than about 3 frames per second on that PC, if they even play at all.

Oh Jesus. Dell! Are you crazy?! They are rip-off merchants.

Why don't you try www.dabs.com? They deliver to Ireland for just £5. You'll save a couple of €.

    Dabs machine
    or

    IBM machine

You'll get a nice monitor there too

really, i thought dell were quite good these days??

i just want the machine for general use, burning cds, dvds, net, email, office etc, not for gaming as i prefer ps2 for that.

ill check out them other sites

reason i was thinking dell is ove only ever had DIY pcs and it would be nice to have one that had all the hardward workign in perfect harmony for a change

For low-end, office type PC's Dell are very hard to beat. For gaming machines/high end stuff, I'd go elsewhere/self build.

If yer not playing games, stick with that dell offer. It seems suited to your needs.

I would never use a Celeron and i mean never. If you are purely using for Microsoft Office and the likes then you will be ok, but if you want to play games it is a NO NO. Spend the extra money and get a P4 if u can, its worth it.

If you're not playing games, the celeron is perfect. I have one in a HTPC box at home. Cheap and cheerful. I honestly think that the vast majority of PC users have machines that are way more than they need. If you're not gonna play games, be kind to your wallet and stick with the celeron. 469 is hard to beat.

Worth checking hp.com and ibm's site too. They have decent deals from time to time.

Wouldn't buy a Dabs machine unless you know what you're doing.

    Good luck.
