my trip to vegas

hello all... just back from my two week stint in the states. Most of it was spent in glorious Ocean Beach down in San Diego. But we did manage to get in a few days in Vegas.

7 of us made to trip in a rented 12 seater van.... as you can imagine, we had some laugh on the way up there too.

We stayed in a beautifull suite in the MGM Grande... basically a 1600sq ft two bed apartment... worked out pretty cheap between the 7 of us (they threw in a few rollers to make up the beds)

Not that anyone noticed, but I had kinda stopped posting on the poker forum for the few weeks leading up to the trip. I seemed to have lost my way a bit, and winning at anything was proving difficult.... well the vegas trip has renewed my interest, and given me a new lease of life.... LIVE poker. Damn online poker is just so boring by comparison.... I think you really need to mix it up.

We all got on okay.... out of the 7 of us there (which was basically my home poker game) 3 maybe 4 of us take poker somewhat seriously... and each of us came away up money at the end of the few days.

I seemed card dead for most of it, and was struggling for hours just to be up about $50/100.... except for the last day... the cards finally started to fall my way a bit.... and turned a $200 buy-in into $700. I was very happy with this as there was a few regulars at the table.

    Biggest win:
$350 pot won with Aces full of 2s.

    Biggest Loss:
$300 when my Aces were cracked by 66: I pre-flop raised to $20, two callers... flop: 2 3 4. I raised to $50, one fold... the other all in. I called. 6 on the turn.

Worst BAD Beat: Lost a $450 pot when my Aces full of Queens was taken down by quad queens - all in on the turn - he rivered the last Queen.

    Biggest bluff: - fantastic stuff:
It was on one of those load mouth americans.. u know the ones... the guys that just constantly talk tactics etc at the table...
I wont go into details.. but basically I made the guy talk himself into folding his treb kings to my absolute nothing..... loving it... took down a $250 pot with high card Q againts treb Ks..... it was my only big bluff of the trip. You should have seen his face... he had already showed me his K 4, then when he folded, I just threw my cards out and told him he was playing against the biggest fish in the sea....

All and all a fantastic few days of poker.... stuck to the 1/2 NL games, mainly in the MGM Grande. It has convinced me to give the casino in town a go... might still start with a few freerolls and small price tourneys before getting into the cash games.

God it sounds great. I am hoping to go to Vegas next year, well actually its the World cup in Germany or Vegas, and the way the Irish Team are playing, Vegas here I come. You should definitely try out the Fizwilliam or the Merrion. I work with a computer all day so I find online playing very boring. The atmosphere is brillant. Im already talking myself into going into the Fitzwilliam for the big game tonight, You never know.

If I lived in Dublin I would have ventured down to the Fitz long ago... but alas Im a Cork man ;)

but the macua is supposed to be very good now, since the new poker room opened up. There's poker on every night and I think they are now doing freerolls twice a week.
