Anyone tried it? I've had several people from the Canadia swear its the best whiskey in the world, I suppose they would, but they've all told me not to drink Canadian club (or is it Club Canada).

    Anyway ...

What is and where would I get a good bottle of rye?

Rye is a whiskey made with mostly or 100% rye grains in the mash, as opposed to corn or barley. (Kentucky Bourbon and Tennessee Sipping Whiskey use corn in the mash). Rye is often confused with Canadian whiskey, but Canadian whiskey is usually corn whiskey or blended whiskey (blended meaning something totally different on that side of the water to what it means here). That'd be why your mates have told you to avoid Canadian Club.

Jim Beam do a rye whiskey, so do Wild Turkey, and Old Overholt (old overcoat) is an interesting one. Old Potrero is also supposed to be smashing, but I've not tried it. As for where you'd buy it... I've no idea to be honest, but the interweb could be a good place to start...

There's a couple of good whiskey shops in Dublin, I'll give them a shout.
