    MELVINS
The Melvins formed in Aberdeen/Montesano, WA in 1984 the founding members were Buzz, Mike Dillard (drums), and Mudhoney bassist Matt Lukin. Buzz, Mike, and Matt all went to high school in Montesano. When Mike couldn't cut it, as rumor has it because the songs were getting too mathematically complex, Dale was recruited out of the Iron Maiden cover band he played in at the age of 15. Matt was replaced by Lorax (Shirley Temple's daughter) when they left Aberdeen for San Francisco. The name Melvins came from a grocery clerk at the Thriftway in Montesano where King Buzzo served as clerk and vandal. Dale filled in for Nirvana when they were between drummers and he appears on Incesticide and Bleach as a result of those sessions. Buzz has a side project called Fantomas with Mike Patton (Faith No More/Mr. Bungle) who is also owner of Ipecac Recordings the label the melvins are currently releasing material through.

Dang! It's been 20 years since these Melvins started and they still have yet to find the common decency to die or break up. The core-band of King Buzzo and Dale Crover remains intact and they've still got a bass player.

Don't try to twist around or screw this up, it's a lot easier to just surrender and let the good times roll. After all, the Japanese and the Germans surrendered and look at them now. One things for sure don't listen to anyone about anything.

A lot of things haven't changed.
The masses and the media still don't know ****.
When some son of a bitch sells you something you still expect the goddamn thing to work.
The Melvins and Ipecac still know what they are doing despite wishy washy idiots who insist on trying to do the driving.

Thanks for the heads-up. Here's hoping they leave 'Spread Eagle Beagle' off the setlist...

Amazing gig. Have to say that I've never seen or known much about the Melvins. For whatever reason I've owned Houdini for years, but never gave the chance to get into it. Did so before the gig though, think it's fúcking great now, and then to see it fully live so quickly was just fantastic.

The band blew me away, something that I wasn't expecting. They really have the attitude. An added bonus was the sound, best I've ever heard in The Village.

Steps away from being incredible though. No fúcking encores. Just Houdini and that was it. With no support, that was hard to excuse.

Yeah but they did play for about 90 minutes, and they were 90 ****ing incredible minutes, so no complaints here. One of the finest gigs I can recall.

yeah umack gigs dont have support bands or encore's, at least going by this and fantomas anyhow.... although in saying that isis in TBMC had 2 support bands but no encore's

i was up at the center of the barrier, amazing gig with great sound!

    Fun.
When did Dale Crover become an old lady though? Ah well, he's still a f**king amazing drummer, despite his appearance. Being treated to 3 renditions of Honey Bucket was rather nice.
And Spread Eagle Beagle/Drum Freakout kicked a surprising amount of scrotum!
Going Blind or Hooch was probably the highlight for me. Just wish they'd done Revolve or Leech or something for an encore.

It was two headliners and one support actually, it was a split tour with Jesu. Many of U:MACK's gigs have supports, usually quality stuff too. Apart from the support for Isis and Jesu.

I'm really sick I missed the Melvins. Really, really sick. I was supposed to be doing a gig in Berlin (DJ, not playing unfortunately) and it was cancelled so I was just in Berlin for no real reason. Not a real complaint I know but one of my goals in life is to experience Joan of Arc live. When I heard that a few years ago when I bought Houdini it made me really get into sludge and doom type metal. From there I went to the Swans, Earth and SunnO))) so it has a special place in my heart. Erm, I'm going to stop ranting now :o
