I know this probably doesnt belong here, but Im desperate :(:(

Does anyone know a good relief for an incredibly sore throat? Im taking UniFlu, but is there any old-wives styleeee cuncoction that could ease my suffering? Ive tried boiled lemons plus honey but it didnt entirely do the trick.

    Thank you

Talk to your doctor, or pharmacist tbh.

    * Take acetaminophen, ibuprofen or naproxen.
    * Gargle with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt per glass of water).
    * Suck on throat lozenges or hard candy.
    * Suck on flavored frozen desserts (such as Popsicles).
    * Use a humidifier in your bedroom or other rooms you spend lots of time in.
    * Drink lots of liquids.

Merocaine from the chemists - any 24hr nearby?
Apart from that, hot cups of tea and bed. Hopefully it'll be gone in the morning :)

There's something wicked going around at the moment. Try Panadol for pain relief, along with the honey and lemon, you'll be fine! If your throat is very dry try breathing in steam to make coughing more productive.

was in the same boat as you there on Monday. Took lots and lots of vitamin C, ginseng, echinacea, multivitamins - basically everything that i could find lying around the house - then gargled with salt and water. Tastes manky but it really does work. Also to numb your throat a bit you can get mouthwash in the chemists i i think it is called cortosomething (it comes in a dark brown bottle with a white label) - its for sore teeth, gums and mouth ulcers but i find it quite good for sore throats.

I got this recipe from my singing teacher and it realy eases the pain in your throat.

    3 onions
    4 cloves garlic
2 chicken stock cubes (knorr have the best taste)
    3 pts cold water

    1) Remove the loose papery skin from the onions and garlic but leave the rest on.
    2) Cut the onions into quarters and crush the garlic cloves open (the bottom of a mug or the back of a wooden spoon does the job best)
    3) Put onions, garlic and stock cubes into a large pot with the water and bring to the boil.
    4) Simmer for 5 mins.
    5) Strain off the soup into a seperate pot and dispose of the onions an garlic. It's very important you do this immediately as if you leave the veg in the pot it makes the soup very very bitter.
    6) Drink as needed.

I've found that this works wonders on my throat. If it does come out a little bitter add a small dollop of honey.

The thing that I use and the only thing that has every worked for me is to eat honey raw or smother food with honey and eat (french toast, mmmmm...), its antiseptic and will kill bacteria on the way down your throat, it helps to eat it rather than drink it as it goes down much slower

A good dollop of honey in hot milk.

    It tastes terrible though.

And different honey's have different properties some better than others.

Definitely, the honey from the hives my father used to keep was just in a different league compared to that Boyne Valley stuff. Rich dark honey works wonders on my throat.
