Firewire connection and Ext. USB 2.0 HD?

Hi, for the past year I have been using USB 1.0 on my laptop, I bought a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card and this doesn't allow me to transfer at USB 2.0 speeds. The reason for this is, I think, a power problem with my laptop. Anyway, I have a firewire port, and the only connection on the External HD is USB.

Is there any kind of connection/adapter that will allow me to plug my HD [USB] into a firewire port?

    4MB/sec is driving me nuts!

does that pcmcia card come with a power cable that plugs in the middle in between the usb ports?

then it would mean that that card draws power from a usb port or a ps2 port on ur laptop.
if thats the case, then u should have the cable.

had one myself and got rid of it and got a pcmcia usb 2 card from trust. i bought it from the laptopshop on stephen's green for 20 euros.

doesnt need external source of power so im really happy with it
