Additives - Synth Oil - Advice please

My car is going in for a major service next week. It's had a hard life almost 140,000 mile on a 1.4 petrol Citroen ZX. I'm not in a position to change it so I have to give it a little tlc and nurse it along for another while.

Are there any brands of oil, plugs etc which I should specify.

Also when I get it back I was thinking about using petrol additives. Any recommendations?

Just use whatever grade/type oil the manufacturer recommends. Maybe look for one of those "high mileage" oils which claim to have additives which prolong the life of oil seals. I know Castrol GTX can be bought with these additives but that is a mineral oil and your car probably needs semi synth.

There is not much routine servicing you can do to prolong the life of a 93 car with 140k miles on it. Basically, if something is going to break or fail, there's not a whole lot you can do about it now except fix it when it happens. Having said that one thing that I would do on the car is flush the rad and refill with new coolant to reduce the chance of an overheating problem occuring.

Thanks for that BrianD3. It's actually a 97 but the milage is very high.
It's a RHD and I'm in France so my only option is to drive it until the wheels fall off as it has zero trade-in/resale value.

In the last 12 months its had a lot of work done, don't laugh, I didn't realise till now how much. So I expect it to keep going.

New brakes, drums, disks, cylinders, clutch, tyres, cylinder head gasket, battery, belts, rad hoses.

Other than that it's been fine. :D

Ok, no need to flush and refill the rad as (hopefully) that will have been done when the head gasket and radiator hoses were done. Quite a lot has been done on the car, often times you will find that after doing this a high mileage car gets a "new lease of life" and runs great for a long time afterwards. It sounds like all you need to get done at this coming service is a general check, plugs, oil and filters.
