Beginner - need advice on what hybrid & wedge to get

    Hi there,

Am looking to add a hybrid and additional wedge to my bag.

WEDGE - was thinking of something like a 60degree, my SW is 55-56 I think. Would this be the best bet? Where I need it for is the <50 yards to the greeen stuff. Should I even go for something like a 64 degree?

I suppose what I mean is, if for example I hit my SW 70 yards, which has an angle of 56 degrees, roughly how far would I hit the same shot on a 60, 64 degree wedge?

HYBRID - which of the 3-5 Iron do people think is the best to replace with a hybrid? I'm comfortable enough with my 3W from fairways, but maybe something to replace my 3-4 iron would be most needed.

get a 60 before a 64, id recomend a 2nd hand matched 3 wedge set off ebay, gap sand lob. then learn how to hit any <50 yard shot with any of the 3 wedges. dont just smash a 64 at it, the more options you have inside 50 yards the better you will score. remember even the best player in the world misses 1/3 of the greens.

I purchased a set from irishgolffitting.com which I am very pleased with (one of the Synchron irons sets 3 & 4 hybrid, 5-9, PW) - nice weight and balance, a good solid feel when you strike the ball correctly. The 3 and 4 iron hybrids are fantastic. I then added an SW for the same set which I use for all my close green work.

Bear in mind that the "lob" wedge was introduced by the manufacturing industry to fill the gap cause by a widening in degree differences between the PW and SW as the various manufacturers pull back and forth with specifications in order to get more sales. There's lots of info on the web about this if you do a google.

Once you have a PW and SW that you are happy with you are very unlikely to need a third wedge.
