Weekly Southcourt Report

Over 70 players showed up in the southcourt last night and put up the €65 to play for tickets to the IPC final + cash.

I drew a good table to start off with mostly really really bad loose passive players. Probably only 1 player at the table knew what he was doing. Not much happened for me during the rebuy period I'd been playing the shortstack since level 3. And after I took the addon I have only 10K with blinds going up to 400/800 after the break. The best hand I'd seen in 6 levels was 88.

It wasn't long before I had to look for a hand to push with. I doubled up with 77 against AK but that barely kept my head abover water. At 800/1500 I had just 11K so I was constantly looking for spots to push. In one particular hand 3rd to act limped in and I had him slightly covered. I read that he had a hand he didn't particluarly want to play but he LOVES to see flops. It was folded to me in the SB and I looked down at J8o. I was prety sure if I pushed he would fold so I did. BB folded and limper folded. I showed my garbage and it seemed to instigate mayhem at the table from then on. I saw a player call on a flop QJ7 all diamond with K8 (no diamond) and turn his a non diamond King for a 2 outer. I saw a player call off a half pot all in on a flop 35K with J7 off and rivered a 7 to rape his oponents 66.

Still playing the shortstack I was just playing 2 card preflop poker all in about once an orbit. Any time anyone limped into my BB I puished with anything half co-ordinated. I was so short I had no choice. I managed to steal a lot of blinds and got my stack up to 39K and made the final table with blinds 3K/6K. 88 was still the best hand I'd seen and I'd only had 1 showdown.

Despite my stack I could afford to wait a bit because a lot of weak players were also very short and were just limping in bleeding away their chips. A couple of players were really easy to read when they were strong because they would limp with hands like AJ and AQ even on the button  so when they raise you know what to do. Mind you they seemed to over value any pair. How the hell does soemone not raise with AQ on the button but call a raise for 50% of his stack and see a flop with 22!!! :o

Duff Man Jr. was at the table and was doing well only coming in for a raise. I think he got dealt AQ 957 times. When it was down to 6 only one other player really had any credibility, an English guy who seemed very solid. I managed to pick up a lot of hands at this point. I saw JJ AJ and AK twice and worked my way up to a serious chip lead when it got down to 3 with Duff Man and English guy. My stack yo-yoed a bit as I tried to force it home. I raise Duff Man's BB twice in a row and both times he came over the top when I couldn't call.

I doubled through the English guy, I can't remember the hand. and then Duff man finished him off. So heads up I had a chip lead of about 100K with lbinds 10/20K. Second hand Heads up we got it all in my AK V Duff man's AQ. Flop came down Q6K. Turn was a rag and river was a Queeeen!! BOLLIX!!! Ya Fookin card rack Duff Man!!! :o

2 hands later I pushed with Q9 and walked into 99 but I flopped a Q and doubled up again. After this were basically even in chips so I offered a deal and we split it 50/50 for about €1500 each with Duff Man taking the €1000 ticket for the IPC final since I already have one. Well played Shane. :)

Boards/poker.ie owned that fookin tourney. :D

Nice report. Well done. What was the overall standard like, was it mainly the lodge tournament regulars or what?

I don't think it was overly generaous but I would happily split with Duff Man any day because he is a gentleman.

EDIT: btw 1500 included the ticket.

The standard in general is absolutely ****ing shocking but from what I've seen the handful of good players that are there are still making final tables and winning them. None of the players that have won over the 4 weeks so far were bad players.

    Well played to you sir.
Can't Remember many hands. Tripled up on pocket jacks after the break, Flop came 88J, One had J8 other had a 8.
Kept it pretty tight went to the final table with 40k and got a rush of good cards to keep me happy.
Went on the steal with Q7 in the SB, was sickned when he called but was laughing when a Q7 came on the flop.

When it was down to 3 I taught if i get to heads up with Nicky I'd suggest a deal, but he had a good lead going in and it might look like i was running scared. Also if i did offer and he turned it down and later i got the lead, he mightn't offer.

BTW There was a really funny hand with 4 left. It was folded to me in the SB and I announce I was putting the BB all in for whatever he had left. I think he had about 6BBs left. I had A-4. He wanted to know how much the bet was. "Ehhh I'm putting you all in". I pushed a big stack if 10K chips in.........

He says "how much is there?"
Me: "More than what you have"
Old Guy:"I want to know how much that is"
Me: "it doesn't matter you can only call all in or fold.
Old Guy: "I want to know how much that is"
Me: "Tell me how much you have. That's the bet!!!"
Old Guy: "I've been playing poker since I was in nappies" (What a lovely image)
    Old Guy folds. :D

I nearly fell out of my ****ing chair laughing.

I wasn't sure if he had made it so i asked in a friendly way and he grunted at me!
Later the button wasn't moved and the dealer told him 6k for the blind,
How could i be BB? I was BB the last time you fool.

Yeah I played the same ass clown in a Sit n' Go a couple of weeks ago. He hates people who raise preflop, so naturally he hates my guts, and the fact that I never shut up at the poker table doesn't help matters either.

I'm never gona let him live down that playing poker in nappies comment. :D
