No way, i think near 50k for you is a great score. Nice work with the 2400+.

Thanks. I was getting around 43K with a Radeon 9800 Pro so when I got the X800XT I was expecting a bigger jump so I guess I must be cpu limited. Time for an upgrade I think.

    AquamarkScore: 88230

    Specs below.
Sorry for reopening an old thread - just finished overclocking the yoke and decided to see if my score was a good score. Found this thread and realised the OP was one of me best mates. Thought I'd post up and sicken his hole at the same time. Mwuhahaha.

Oh for the record: 7277 is my 3DMark05 score - not happy with it, but can't seem to get anything extra out of my gfx card. I could manage only 10mhz () out of the core as stock cooling is my only option right now and gfx card overclocking seems to be much much more difficult than CPU overclocking which has been a dream for me with the zalman.

    Pack3t3rroR 70242 isnt great for a 7800gt, most athlon 64 systems with a 7800gt get around the 90,000 mark

I will post my benchmarks during the week, my parts are coming from the UK:) :)

I know for a fact that was his first run after a fresh build so I assume with the driver releases since and a chance to tune the machine he'll get much better marks. I mailed him to remind him about this thread so he should get back soonish.

Yeah the new forcware 81.95 drivers get another 10fps average in F.E.A.R.

WOW It has been neraly 4 months sice he posted in this thread :)

69,960(you think it would lie and give me the 70k), with a 6800gs and amd64 4400 and 2 gig pc3200. Just curious is this average because i'm paranoid about my system at the mo.

Yeah I was disapointed with 50k on the XT but reckon my cpu was the bottleneck. (XP2400)

Anyway good timing as I built an new rig yesterday and have a few benchies. :D

    Opteron 146 @ 2.2 GHz
    EVGA 7800GT CO
    1 GB Geil VR

    Aquamark: 77,498
    3D Mark 05: 7522

Everything pretty much stock so I'd expect a lot better in the next few weeks.

    Aquamark 88771
    3DMark05: 7295

I reckon thats my system at its current limit - my MOSFETS are running hot under load (~58 degrees) so thats my final scores until I install another case fan over my mosfets - which incidentally means butchering my nice shiny aluminium case. :(

/Edit: I just couldn't stop myself. Up to 2.572 on the CPU and got 2 more MHz from the gfx Core and upped the mem to 1.07 which 3DMark05 didn't seem to mind.
Will run more tests and then run the benchmarks again and see if this improves anything. Technically I could clock the CPU much higher to get a good score as only one core is used and so will not run hot but these scores I'm wanting to get are my machine at realistic stable levels for when I use both cores. Maybe I'll overclock and use one core just for these tests in the future but kinda feels like cheating considering i'll be clocking them right down again straight afterwards. :)

/Edit #2 - ok I think I'm diseased - pushed it farther again and it was well worth it. I have her running stable-ish (have to do a full prime95 test yet) at 2.6GHz and it was worth it - broke 90k on aquamark to 90017 and broke into 7300's on 3DMark05 with a score of 7301 (hehe, just about) :)

Started fecking around with the overclocking utility on the 6800GS went from 425 to 475mhz and aqua mark went from 69K to 75K, all with only a increase of 4 degrees in normal temp and 10 degrees during games, well within tolerances. might try 500mhz tonight.

For those whom it may concern my 3dmark05 is 7897.
See specs in my sig, at the moment my cpu is holding me back but I reckon I'll be able to break the 8000 barrier ;)

I flashed my 7800GT BIOS this morning to up the voltage to 1.5v - well **** me the difference it made. instead of 437/1070 its now clocked at 480/1200 and it got me 700 odd extra in 3Dmark05 and another thousand in aquamark. (reckon I can get better too - i've ordered a VGA cooler - zalman VF700 Cu). Although I had since upped my CPU even more to 2.620.

I don't want to leave my CPU at that though cos 1.65v is just too much for sustained usage.

    Current standings:
    Aqumark03: 91070
    3DMark05: 8027

Edit: Found my gfx card limit at 482 (took bloody ages because I only know when 3DMark05 crashes just before the second test (light in the forest))
On a brighter note I reduced my voltage on my CPU from 1.65v to 1.58v and its still stable at 2.620. Much cooler now - rarely hits fifty.

Increased my score slightly to 8068.

Is there much of a difference between 3D Mark 03 and 05?I got a score of 4911
on 3D Mark 03. Just wondering if its a good score?

How did you flash the bios and is there any advantage to flashing the bios besides upping the voltage?
I presume your card's warranty is voided now aswell

Upping the voltage is the advantage - allows a much higher overclock.

I *think* this does void my warranty - but the BFGs have a lifetime warranty - but i'm switching out the cooler anyways so I think that would void the warranty - flashing it was really really easy.

This guy made a really simple guide which is easy to follow to the letter and works perfectly.

Looks a bit slow there Cungi. Not sure how the x800gt should perform, but must be faster than the 9800s

AYe that's the one I've ordered (below) - waiting on RAM to come into stock though which is a pain. Komplett take bloody ages to restock.

EDIT: Haha, scratch that, the RAM came in - they're all on the way now. Oops.

I have no idea if this is a good score - cant be too bad if its line with my '05 score.

    Aquamark score= 86950
    Dell XPS 600
    Nforce 4 Board + P840 D 3.2GHz
    2 x 7800GTX 256MB
    2GB DDR2 533MHz
    74GB Raptor 10K Drive

this was my first score..don't think it supports dual core processors as mine showed up as hyperthreading enable..
when I ran the test twice more score dropped to 66,000 and hyperthreading had been disabled hence it would only use one core..strange one

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 18,115 ✭✭✭✭ShiverinEskimo

You wont get one program to use more than one core until windows vista is out.
All my scores are based on one core only.

I know for a fact though with two GTX's you should be getting a lot more than 86k...

Just wondering is my score low or should i be getting more from my system

    System:

    Intel Pentium4 3.6Ghz
    2GB Cruical PC4200 DDR2 (Dual Channel)
    ATI X850XT 256mb PCIE
    Lanparty 925X -t2
    400GB Hitachi SATA
    500gb Hitachi SATA
    200gb Maxtor SATA

    * Nothing is overclocked*

    Scores are:
    Aquamark 3: 64,496

For your spec I would think you should be getting better. Thats a good gfx card you have and shouldn't be 20-25k off a 7800.

Run 3DMark05 and upload your score at the end and find a spec the same as yours. I'm thinking low to mid 6000's would be in line with your sys for 3DMark05

Shiverin, great scores. However, I wouldn't recommend going above 1.5v on the core voltage for your graphics card. It can lead to Bad Things™ happening ;)

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 18,115 ✭✭✭✭ShiverinEskimo

The BIOS flash only allows a new setting of 1.5v so it won't be going over that by my reckoning - unless the BIOS asks it to.

I'm not brave enough to go about volt modding it via pencil mods or even soldering. Saying that I'm fairly new to this overclocking malarky so if you spot me posting on a thread that I'm doing something that would cause your trade mark "Bad Things" to happen to me be sure to pipe up and be as patronising as you like - because chances are I have no clue.
