Not really getaway or baddy, but I think De Niro proved in Ronin that it's about the shot, not the car. De Niro was way better in the Peugeot than the other lads in the Beamer. I'd give Natascha McElhone one too. :)

Toyota Carina E, it's so non-descript that it will just fade into the background, all you need to do is drive 100 yards down the road and park up, there's no way that anyone will notice you there.

The S8 because A) It's very anonymous and B) It goes like the clappers

When I am a badass gangsta rapper I will drive a Mk10 Jag like the Krays drove - must be black with crome spinners.

Oh and the Mini in the first Bourne movie - mighty fine piece of driving Mr. Damon....

    Something along the lines of:

Elwood: "It got cop shocks, cop brakes and cop suspension"
    Jake: <silence>
    ** They Ramp Bridge **
    Jake & Elwood: <silence>
    Jake: "Good pickup"
Elwood: "So is it the new Blues Mobile or what?"
Jake: "It'll do but fix the lighter"

    Absolutely classic.... :D

I'd vote for this car too.

    <edit> just found it

    Blues Brothers Movie Script

    Quote:

    Jake: What's this?
    Elwood: What?
Jake: This car. This stupid car. Where's the Cadillac? The Caddy? Where's the Caddy?
    Elwood: The what?
Jake: The Cadillac we used to have. The Blues Mobile!
    Elwood: I traded it.
Jake: You traded the Blues Mobile for this?
    Elwood: No. For a microphone.
Jake: A microphone? Okay I can see that. Well, what the hell is this?
Elwood: This was a bargain. I picked it up at the Mount Prospect City Police auction last spring. It's an old Mount Prospect Police Car. They were practically giving them away.
Jake: Well, thank you pal, the day I get out of prison, my own brother picks me up in a police car.

[Fog horn and warning bell sounds.]

    Elwood: You don't like it?
Jake: No, I don't like it.

[Elwood drives over a raising draw bridge.]

Jake: Cars got a lot of pick up.
Elwood: It's got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks, it was a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. Whaddya say? Is it the new Blues Mobile or what?
    Jake: Fix the cigarette lighter.

Not very funny unless you point out that he says this as he's throwing it out the window.

As proven by the "scooby gang" who ran riot down the country not so long ago. Cops could never get near them and never caught them.

a Mk10 Jag like the Krays drove
A real villains motor - that or any other large Daimler of the period :D

The man with the golden gun had one.

Fair enough... he didn't quite make it in the end, so I guess it's not that good of a getaway car :(

Opening sequence of "The Transporter", per chance?

    PS: was it a 523i? definitely a 5-something

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,202 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I think he used a 530i or 540i, he probably would not be caught dead in a little 523i. :D:D

    I admit that I haven't seen it but apparently it is an E38 7er - either an unkel special (735i) or a 740i - one site suggests its a V12 735i(!?!).
Another site lists loads of errors in the film - www.moviemistakes.com/film2674

IMHO one of the best getaway cars from a movie would be the
    53648456.jpg

    that tried to escape the
    photo_13182.jpg

    in Bad Boys.

(have to say that the 911 above is stunning compared to any since)

    Twas a 735i E38 with M62 3.5 liter V8 alright :D

It wasn't my actual car that featured in that film afaik :)

It should have been an M5 used in the Transporter. Did any one see the Guy
Richie/BMW film on the BMW web site featuring an M5?

I'd have to say the new audi RS4. Room enough for three passengers and space in the boot for the loot. It also has awd which helps in tight turns and has enough top end to outrun the police on faster roads.

In Engalind the humberside police bought this

    Subaru_Impreza_Turbo_Police_front_quarter.jpg

    to pursue this...

    intro_image024.jpg

so it I reckon it deserves a mention...
I should add that I hope to get delivery of one these in two weeks so I could be a bit biased... roll on the penalty points....

Maybe its just me but your second picture didn't come out. But welcome to the penalty point club anyway. What kind of car are you getting?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 16,659 ✭✭✭✭dahamsta

It's supposed to be a Mitsubishi Evo V, judging by the URL.

  • Registered Users Posts: 310 ✭✭Cerberus

Sorry, link got broken. ya it's an evo 5. awesome machine. just waiting on insurance to get back to me. got a very good initial quote off Brittons Insurance. Excess is high but that seems to be the price one pays to join the supercar club in your twentys....

well as I said, I haven't seen it. Still though, some folk insist that it was a V12 - www.automotiveforums.com/t113765.html

    I haven't seen it either :)

The good folks in that thread pretty much correctly point out it is a 735i

The only thing that confuses me is the manual vs automatic issue. I have never seen an E38 in Ireland that is not automatic. It would not make sense to me to sell manual E38s in the USA, but of course I might be wrong. Any specifics on that?
