Whinging and moaning

    Following their defeat to Tyrone in the All Ireland, I've heard nothing else from Kerry except whinging and moaning. The moans included ;

The referee not playing an extra minute
The Gooch getting a poke in the eye
    Tyrone physical approach

I mean come on. Did Kerry ever look like scoring a goal? Granted there should have been another minute I don't think Kerry can complain because it would have been a complete injustice had they even secured a draw. Kerry people are complaining that the Gooch incident knocked Kerry back for 15 mins during that game. I say thats rubbish. The Tyrone players stifled the quick/good ball going into Gooch and Brosnan and thats what stopped Kerry. Tyrones physical approach excuse is just Kerry fans clutching at straws.

I remember when we had beaten Kerry in the '98 All Ireland semi final, they moaned for months about the disallowed goal.

Who remembers the Tipp game when Kerry 'scored' a goal that was clearly after hitting the back stanchion and coming back into play? What goes around comes around.

We were beaten in our only All-Ireland (in my lifetime) and although I was absolutely gutted, I had no complaints because Galway played some wonderful football that day. I would dearly love to be in Kerry's shoes with regards to football titles.

Get over it Kerry fans. No team has a divine right to an All-Ireland.

I haven't heard any moaning to be honest, I thought they were very gracious in defeat.

And that's coming from a Mayo man, who's had his fair fill of Kerry 'wisdom' and 'advice' after many Croke Park Sundays.

The referee not playing an extra minute

Have the right to moan but would have made no foreseeable difference.
The Gooch getting a poke in the eye

Have every right to complain about it. Should have being a straight red. Other Kerry and Tyrone players could have walked also but that was disgraceful reffing. The Gooch is a natural treasure to watch and anyone who sinks to that level against a player like that should be ashamed of themselves.
    Tyrone physical approach

Shouldn't be complaining about that. It wasn't great football, Tyrone are a negative team, they kill off the game. Not a bad way to win but pretty bad for spectating if you ask me.

Overall Tyrone were miles better and deserved to win. I haven't heard much Kerry dissent so i don't know where your hearing it.

As a kerry supporter im really sick of the way ALL of us are getting labelled whingers and moaners just because of the comments of some ill-informed morons who were probably never at a match in their life. I was at croke park on sunday and although i was gutted that we were beaten, tyrone were, undoubtedly the better team on the day nad deserved their win. I shook hands with the tyrone supporters that were near me, and said well done. We ARE gracious in defeat. That is what "typical" kerry fans are like

I also think you are being harsh Hawker. I think most Kerry fans have congratulated Tyrone on a deserved victory. There are some muppets out there like NetWhizKid, but every county has muppets!

What a lot of people forget is that in every county in the land, and abroad, there are two types of supporters.

There are those who have been and the February league 'glamour-tie' in the county ground when the final score is 1-06 to 0-04, and you leave thinking you've just paid a fiver to watch a Junior B game!

Then there are the 'September supporters', those who come into the club looking for 6 tickets to the All-Ireland Semi-final/Final, and you havent seen them since the same time last year! Granted these folk are more prevalent in the traditionally stronger counties, where as a matter of course anything less than a semi-final appearance is a disappointment.

I work as a steward in Croke Park, and am lucky enough to see every game over the course of the year free of charge, and I can safely say that it is always the Autumnal supporter who tends to bitch and moan, without a real grasp of what has gone on during the year. The real 'supporter' will take defeat with good grace, knowledgable in the fact that they'll be back again next year doing their best.

As a Kerry supporter I have to second that. ye wouldn't want to be listening too much to what the likes of Netwhizkid goes on with.

Congrats to Tyrone team and managment.

Also wanted to add that all the Tyrone supporters I met with after shook hands and agreed that it was a great game and they were just that bit too good for us on the day.

I have to say I was rooting for Tyrone to win, but I do sympathise with the Kerry players and fans. What happened with the Gooch was well out of order and should have been dealt with severley. It seems to me that Tyrone set out to take out the star player on Kerry.....it happens in a lot of team sports where the opposition deliberately target the danger man on the opposing team. What I want to know is why the umpires who clearly saw this, took no action???, disgraceful. Also, it seemed the ref blew up early whilst Kerry were deep in the Tyrone half, that also should be investigated.....After all it is the Football final, and who wants to win by cheating or help from the Ref. Sayng all that, I do think that Tyrone were slightly the better team overall, but it was Damn close

Well the few (four/five) I was speaking too had a moan of some sort. They were the only Kerry fans I was speaking to so thats why I came to that conclusion.

BTW the Gooch incident. What happened? I didn't see it so can someone tell me how he was flattened? Was it shown on TV?

I'm a Dubliner and was at the match on Sunday. I was delighted with the result. As some of the regular contibutors to this forum will know, I am far from a September supporter. Anyway, after the match I met a Tyrone friend of mine for a few celebratory pints. We met in the Gresham. Our experiences there, and in the stages after the match, was of a positive response from Kerry fans we encountered. While disappointed, they acknowledged it was a good game and that Tyrone were the better team. Kerry people know their football and appreciate a good team. As stated already, it is only the September supporters, that don't really know the game, that moan. Good supporters will tell you it was the best final in recent years. Last year's and the 2003 final were disappointing and lacked quality, but this year's was good.

    Well said Flukey...

I watched the match in Fagans and received a very positive response from all the kerry fans I met.

On a different note there was one Armagh fan in there wearing an Armagh jersey and a Kerry Hat, trying to give the hat away after the result. A good friend of mine from Armagh nicely asked him to keep the hat on.. We did sing a blast of there'll be no Sam Maguire in Armagh to him after that just for fun.

All a bit of jest and a great result for the Tyrone team.

From the credible reports I heard it seems that the Tyrone keeper flattened the Gooch with a punch (off the ball) right in the Tyrone goal mouth in full view of both Umpires. The Gooch was down for several minutes and the umpires spoke with each other and the Ref and basically did zero. The Tyrone keeper then approached one of the umpires and patted him on the back in appreciation. That may sound unbelievable, but it is what happened. The Gooch never recovered fully from this and that's what really irritaed me. I can only imagine how demoralized the Gooch must have felt as well as being concussed....That to me is not sport and certainly not what the GAA should be tolerating.....total lack of standards

I was sttting high in the corner of the Hogan Stand looking down on the goal and even though I did not see the incident I did not take my eyes off the goal until after the incident was over.

1, I never saw the umpires talk to each other
2, After Gooch being down for a few mins the ref blew up and ran back to the goal.
3, He talked with the umpire on the Hogan stand side only, he did not talk to both.
4, He then let play continue.
    5. The Tyrone keeper never went to an umpire to 'pat him on the back'

I have yet to hear a credible account of what happend, someone must have seen it, did the TV carmras see it ?

I heard this second hand by someone who was listening to RTE radio and they were discussing the very incident. I'm nealy sure it was Des Cahill......Like said I'm not 100% on the whole incident, but the Gooch was definitely taken out of it by foul and deliberate means and the umpires definitely saw this.....

    Hi Folks,
As a Kerryman I would like to congratulate Tyrone on a great win on Sunday. I saw the Gooch incident from the upper canal. Basicaly gooch never tried to stop losing mcmanemmen. He never stopped running. Mcmennemen and the keeper were having a chat when gooch ran around them and behind the keeper. The keeper put his hand back to stop gooch and got him in the face. It was definatly a straight red offence. It happend right in front of the umpire but he failed to act.

Kerry may have gotten a lucky goal if the ref had played an extra minute but it would have been very lucky. Time keeping must be taken away from the ref.

I must also say thanks to all the Tyrone fans for being good winners and deserving all ireland champions. Looking forward to next year already.

Like I said previously the Kerry fans I spoke to did nothing but moan to me about the match last Sunday. These are all obviously 'September supporters'. Having said that, I would like to apologise to the genuine Kerry fans on this board who have been very sporting in defeat. I probably should not have generalised like I did.

Kerry are always very gracious in defeat..... it's all the 'advice' we get walking up Jone's road when they win which is difficult to take. ;)

    sigh :o

As I mentioned earlier, I met a Tyrone friend after the game in the Gresham Hotel. This was his view of things, posted on another board that we frequent:

One of the things which made a real impression on me on Sunday, which I hadn't expected to such an extent, was how gracious in defeat the Kerry supporters were. Walking from Croke Park to O'Connell Street after the match, wearing a Tyrone scarf, I walked among several Kerry supporters at various points along the way, and they were very good-natured, and a few of them made comments to me such as "the best team won" (even though Kerry were only narrowly beaten) and one of them shook my hand and said "fair play to ya". And then in the bar at the Gresham, which was packed with Kerry supporters, it was the same story. They seemed to be unanimously magnanimous.

And my good impression of Kerry supporters was confirmed watching The Championship on BBC TV this evening, and hearing the Kerry chairman, Sean Walsh, speaking to the Tyrone players in the dressing room after the match:
Quote: In this room there is as good a bunch of Gaelic footballers that ever played in this country. You're a fabulous team, I want to congratulate you from the bottom of our hearts in Kerry, because you are absolutely fantastic All-Ireland champions, and all the adulation that goes with it in the coming weeks, you're totally deserving of it.
