Yeah, got that smell in my wife's car. Had to top up the coolant regularly. She, the car, not the wife, had a rad leak.

Maybe you just have an airlock which has the same net effect, no coolant where there should be coolant.

My wife sometimes leaks and smells of curry, I top her up with cold beer and it always fixes the problem :)

I reckon you have a coolant leak too - if the heater is blowing hot air then its is unlikely to be airlocked otherwise there is often a bleed valve near the bulkhead where the hoses go to the heater where you can check for bubbles. Is the car old and was the system filled with water before you flushed it?

The car is old enough ('98)....sounds like I have a leak alright. Tis weird cause a few weeks ago I noticed a small leak on the passenger floor (it was coolant cause i knew by the colour of it)....but it hasn't leaked since.
I asked my Dad about it & he said it's prob the heater rad leaking but the weird thing is, is that the heater controls all work as expected in the car
