Digital broadcasting and the TV licence

I see that one of the ISPs is offering TV over DSL
If I were to permanently disable the tuner circuitry on my (cheap) TV and used a digital TV service would I have to pay the TV licence?

The VCR would also be retired at the same time and put beyond use.

    Yes.

The law is something like "A device capable of picking up televised transmissions" That means if you can watch TV at all (pc or tv) you need a license.

i believe the license inspectors can get subscriber details off NTL, so they can probably do the same off any ISP offering TV signals.

If nothing else, it'd make for a good test case :)
