need a little bit of advice my cavalier spaniel who a few days ago gave birth has gone off her food ( pedigree chum meat and mixer ) which she normally loves have been given her a few extra doggie treats but dont think im overdoing the treats. Going to try some new food but was wondering if anyone knows of any specialist food 4 dogs with puppies??

There are several foods specially formulated for lactating bitches. Best give your vet a quick ring though ...a dog going off its food after just having given birth in my eyes is not a good sign ...she should be eating like a horse.

I have no real experience with lactating bitches, but my suspiscion is that there may be something going wrong ...please consult your vet pronto.

Get her to the vet - I have quite a bit of experience of nursing bitches.
Pregnant and lactating bitches need so much more than chum and mixer. Especially if it's know the dog isexpecting - she needs building up for the long and hard task of feeding a litter.

Many foods have a range especially for pregnant / nursing mums but 1st things 1st - Please speak to the vet asap - she should be eating for Ireland.
I would be quite concerned about this.

Hi , Vet has said that she has a touch of mastitis ( her breasts are a little bit more swollen than she should be) she should be ok in a few days have to keep an eye that no pus comes from the nipples as this would indicate an infection but he thinks its just due to her changing hormones. but she is back eating which i think is a good sign
