um..I'm trying to think about how far up a shirt and tie goes....(I don't wear any!)...
    If it's covering the piercing...yes...
if it's just below the piercing, to where it's touching off it, I'd say yes...
I'm guessing you're placement would have to be high, to avoid it any irratation off a high collar....
any slight irratation to surface piercings, can start the road off to rejection!!
but I don't have that much expierence with shirt and ties..so I'm not too much help..
but I'm saying yes, it would effect it!
I'd also suggest, telling the piercer, before it's done..just to get placement and what not best suited to you!

When i got mine pierced i was on a break from work so the piercer was able to place mine in a position that would cause the least irritation.

Sometimes my collar rubs of the screws but nothing to harsh. Most of the time the collar will cover the piercering and rest gentley ontop of the screws. This may not work to well if you have a tight fitting collar and may cause irritation. But if you're like me and havea loose fitting colar its perfect.

Hope that helps in some way. Seemed slightly clearer in my head.

Mine is at the base of my neck and I never had any problems healing it and wearing shirts for work. In fact it's been the easiest piercing to heal, just wash it in the shower every day and forget about it.

You should have a surface bar in it shouldn't be too much just change the jewelery and should be fine

Just go to a reputable piercing studio and get them to have look ( like everyone else , i would say snakebite ). How long have you got it done ?

If you have it long and it hasn't migrated then the odds of it migrating are very low. You should have a bar shaped like this l_________l to minimize movement.

Wear a collar at work, no tie, piercing gets irritated a lot and gets infected a lot. Have it a year now. Was very close to taking it out a few weeks ago as it was so bad. But I'm the same for most piercings.

These sort of bars are called surface bars. they have to be measure and custom fitted. you can get really fancy ones made of tygon if you feel like splashing out. A curved bar in the nape will increase the chances of migrating out if he said curved bar he doesn't know his stuff. For a surface piercing to hold well the bar has to exit the skin at a 90 degree angle.

On a side note there's a way that has the best chance of not migrating where you use a dermal punchto make two hole then a taper to make a tunnel between themand use a surface bar this way has added benefits as it eliminates the tension on the sides of the piercing. I'm not sure if anyone on thew irish scene does them this way but i'm sure of of the butchers will give it a go

Yeah, I'm not sure does anyone do punch and taper over here either...
I think maybe there might be someone who's doing it alright, I might check it out, cos I wanna get a couple of surface piercings anyway.
Saying that, I have a surface piercing under my navel, that's still going strong nearly three years later..so if no one does it that way, I'm sure I'll be fine getting them done, the usual way.!

just curios, is it 17 or 18 for nape and other transdermal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭amazingemmet

Not too sure on that one i think some place do 16 and some 18 (great help). Transdermals defintely over 18

    | all ok then, its the right shape?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 958 ✭✭✭porn_star

    |_______| yup, thats the shape bar you need for a surface piercing...

I imagine it's different from shop to shop, when it comes to age..I'd actually be interested to know whether it's 16 or 18 myself...hmm..never actually thought about it.
    and 18 for transdermals.
