Ok getting a new bass amp as i couldnt get a job for the summer on account of my long hair it took me a good bit longer to save up for one so now that im getting down to it ive been looking at a load of bass amps that are suitable for small gigs and jamming under $600 and i came up with:

    Gallien-Krueger Backline 210 Combo

    and

    Ashdown mag c210-t-300

Anyone out there know which one would sound better, ill be playing metal mostly although i slap quite a bit, think the mudvayne bass sound and you know what im going for.

    Any input would be nice.

I think the ashdown mag t 300 is the american version, the european version does not have the t.nut yaeh thats the amp im saving up for,its the one with the 15" driver and is 300 watts isnt it?i know someone who has one and he says its amazing, although he is selling it because he is getting a half stack now.

The ashdown is a quality amp. Not to familiar with the other one tho, rarely played through it. An abvious comment, but if you want heavy bass, you cant beat an Ampeg. I have an Ampeg and while they are expensive, i would advise saving a bit more and going for it. Also what type of Bass are you playing?

at the moment im playing this noname bass with active humbuckers but by x mass i should have me a warwick corvette 5 string, no hope i can afford an ampeg, the combos from my very limited experiance with them imo are **** and i cant afford a stack or even a half stack.

Dunno about the GK but I have an Ashdown ABM. Apart from the eq, which I find a little cumbersome (though I've talked to others who love it), it's a kick ass amp. I was persuaded to by it after playing a Mag 300 combo.

depending on the price of P&P i will be getting this amp.
    reviews here and here.
this sister of this amp, the R4 comes with a 15" speaker. can anyone tell me the advantage of having a 15in speaker over 2x10in speakers or vis versa?

10s give a punchier tone, 15s are really low, rumbly speakers.

Tony Fitz's bassist has a GK 2x10 combo (maybe that one, I don't know). It sounds pretty good to my ears. Nice and clear, and plenty loud.

I wouldn't call 15s rumbly... they can put out the lows (E to low B for example) better than a 2x10 in my experience, but still have more than enough clarity even on the high notes on my 6 string bass.

Well they are both quality amps. The GK may be more along what you are looking for.Flea plays them. The Ashdown is for more of a vintage type of tone.GK will be more modern and hi-fi

Im getting it off the net off of www.soundslive.co.uk pretty decent prices imo, and mongo i like to slap but does it still have the power to pick up a nice growling low b?

id go for the ashdown. The backline series are GK's cheapest set of amps, nothing like the real deal, but the mag 300 is an excellent amp, really reliable, and you could easily connect an extension cab, loads of extra power.

Yes. The aforementioned Tony Fitz's bassist plays a 5 string. The GK is a hell of a lot better at reproducing the B than the 1x12 Trace Elliot that I have.
