What was clearly a joke seems to have offended...

I was clearly pointing out the daftness of the Stormin Norman posts [not the original just the way it's manifested itself] By making a statement that is obviously not true/ or meant to be taken seriously.

Andy Black is rubbish... I mean cop on.

What's happened to this place? No room for humour anymore?

You would have stood a better chance if you had slapped the Virgin Mary's bottom at a Legion of Mary meeting, drunk, then pretend to criticize Andy around here Len!
....i was wondering what you were up to...
still i got a giggle out of it! :D

:D I would have thought the word "Rubbish" was such a big clue. It's such a ridiculous word to use.

As it happens I've only once been on a table with Andy and that was last years EPT Main event in Dublin. I was shortstacked and had Joe Beevers on my right and Andy on my left. I can't remember exactly what the hand was but I checked, Andy bet, Joe Folded and I - on a bluff - raised. Andy stared at me for what seemed like hours. If he called I was dead in the water - But I felt he was drawing too. He folded. But he knew I was at it :D

I didn't know who he was then but I quickly learnt.

clearly not Len, thats why i havent posted much recently, the moderators seem to have got very strict of late ever since this 'title a bad beat' rule thing. i know there is a lot of lurkers/ first time posters useing dodgy grammer but lighten up a little mods.

    grammar :p

    sorry couldn't resist :D

I don't care what anybody thinks of Andy Black. The post was pointless. You said you wanted to see how many people would flame you for saying it. That to me is a waste of time. If you think some valid poker discussion might have come of it then by all means tell me how.

I strive not to be too strict but the term here is trolling guys which is not appreciated on any forum here. If you have any examples of posts where you think the mods reacted wrongly then by all means pm me. Should I have left the post in question open so we could watch folks berate fatboydim for it or alternatively congratulate him on his wonderful joke???

I've read three threads today and this will be the last one.

I might come back to the Poker/CS forum tomorrow and see if there are any interesting topics.

    Who let the trolls out?

    I moved this thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=305942
to the recycle bin last night.
No content, no potential for content and just taking up space in an already busy forum.

Recent threads and discussions have shown that people don't want random threads that have no real point. People prefer threads with decent poker discussion, so feel free to enjoy the After Hours or the Humour forums, or go crazy on #boards.ie on IRC, www.mirc.com

I doubt this thread will have a long productive life either.

Thought the whole idea of a forum was that it was a forum. A place to express ideas and thoughts , arguments, jokes what have you... Locking the thread did nothing. Except produce this thread. It was not rude... it was not flaming anybody or anything else... if it was unsuccesful it would have died peacefully and been laid to rest... Methinks a tad too overzealous from the moderators. But that is your choice. Contrast this to the thread on Norman... a player who is more likely to be affected by the things said and discussed than Andy is... Why is that not locked? Personal insults abound.

Basically this thread wasn't given a chance... two posts and it was locked.

What kind of success did you have in mind for the thread?

A chance to what? The Stormin thread had me a little uncomfortable to be honest but there is discussion on the type of player he is and the balance is positive. You called your thread humour. Did you want a discussion on how funny it was/wasn't? If so it's nothing to do with poker.

Well a post on what's funny and what isn't funny would take more space than is available here. And is of course a matter of opinion. Some people got it some people didn't. That's neither here nor there. But locking the post turned it all into something else. You deemed it pointless. Fine. It's your site. But censorship is a tool that should be used sparingly otherwise it has no meaning.

What I expected to happen with the post is relatively irrelevant- either people picked up on it or they didn't - but of course by locking it it's drawn attention to the post and therefore used more bandwidth than if it had been allowed to die.

I'll say no more on the matter. Feel free to lock this discussion now - It's not important - I certainly don't mean to offend - and I shall certainly revise my career plans to be a stand up comedian.

If you genuinely feel that the poker forum is badly moderated then please put a thread on the feedback forum. I'm serious here, it'd be very nice to get some feedback on the changes since Musician and myself were added as mods. You can pm either of us if you'd prefer to voice your opinions in private.
It may seem like we (me especially :)) have cracked down on less serious threads and bad beat threads but it was triggered by threads like this one

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,035 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

By closing the thread I closed it. I didnt start this thread in response to that so lets get straight on who made something out of it and took up whatever bandwidth is in question. I am happy to take criticism for the way I mod the forum and I contributed to the bandwidth loss here by responding to your issues with the matter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,924 ✭✭✭Fatboydim

I don't recall saying anywhere that the forum was badly moderated. I'm sure it's a difficult enough task as it is... and there's a balance to be struck. Just like some people enjoying bad beat stories and some people hating them. Etc etc...

The only thing I would suggest [and I don't know if this is technically possible - but assume it is] is that instead of locking the threads you don't want on the site - removing them completely.

oh, its possible alright Len, believe me!

three cheers by the way to the mods, great job so far.

in fact, despite the odd drunken loon (ahem) this is one of the best forums around, lets hope it continues to go from strength to strength, tx in part to the wary and no doubt weary mods!

I think any post that doesn't relate to poker strategy, TV, or event discussion (have I left anything out) should just be deleted. Out of site and out of mind. The forum is full of ****ing nonsense at the moment.

Oh well I now notice That Playing Jesus thread has been locked - despite people clearly enjoying the post including the Mod who posted a still from the rather excellent Cohen brothers film The Big Lebowski.

I think it's a real shame when fun strands like that are banned. Looks like you'll get what you want Nicky - plain old analytical nonsense.

Think I'll go buy a book instead.
