Downloading RTÉ Radio Show files

It used to be possible to download RTÉ Radio shows(non-music) for later listening.

I emailed them and they said it was because of copyright.

Can't be much copyright material in Liveline, now can there :D

It seems the files are embedded. I used to go to the page source and look for a .ra file, get the address, stick it in Download Accelerator and download it that way.
Now all I can see is a smil file. (It only leaves a smil file in the temp internet folder, even after streaming)

Anyone know a way around this?

    thanks

smil is for streaming media. It's a pointer file to the actual feed. They use it to stop people doing exactly what you were doing.

what you need is a stream grabber - google it and away you go.

    Hey Guys,

    Just re-highlighting this thread...

I was trying to save George Lee's Boom documentary offline to watch from the smil. file:

    rtsp://streaming2.rte.ie/2006/0601/boom-122265-228.rm?start=0:09:37&end=0:35:05
    rtsp://streaming2.rte.ie/2006/0601/boom-122265-228.rm?start=0:40:02&end=01:06:56

These can be directly manipulated/pasted into a browser which opens realaudio player in my case. I tried using the Free Download Manager to capture the files but I'm not sure if that is possible since it won't pick them up. URL is not valid (but the browser (Firefox) will call the player). The motivation to watch these offline is that its 50k/s to watch - and that's can be pretty heavy on a 10Gb Eircom cap if watched more than once long term.

I used R7C as in post above but its limited by memory so that even a 20 min clip record crashes after running out of virtual memory (limitation with that program). Has anyone had any success with any other method? Try the two rtsp links above (part 1 and 2 of the Boom documentary). The spacing is between the ads which is pretty cool.

Id imagine whats throwing off the download program is those links are specifying times within the file to start and stop.

Try changing your links to these and it should work (if your still having probs, try using net transport)

the times are there to get the specific part of the show that he wants. If he uses the link without the time he'll download the full 2 hour program or whatever.

Google for 'Streambox VCR' which can download files direct from rtsp link.

Thanks Skywalker - yes meant to point out that I tried without the times. The manager was thrown off by the url starting with rtsp. That Free Download manager (with flashgot) is class for everything else.

Zaphod - Thanks I will check it out.
