I’m sure we all know by now that Die Another Day starring Pierce Brosnan released by MGM in 2002 was the last Bond film. and last year, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, the sibling producers who control the Bond franchise, told the 52-year-old Irishman, the fifth actor to portray Bond, that after four films they would not require his services for the new one.
According to sources familiar with the situation, the producers and Brosnan were too far apart on terms to close a deal. One executive at Sony which now controls MGM, Described Brosnan's salary at $30 million, and that was a factor in the decision.

In November last year, the many partners who are involved in casting the new Bond – including Amy Pascal, chairman of the Sony Pictures Entertainment motion picture group – held their first meeting at a British men's club in London, but they were unable to reach an agreement. Since then MGM officially announces that the next James Bond film is go to be called "Casino Royale" Casino Royale was, of course, the first of Ian Fleming's Bond novels but, because the author had already sold the rights, producers Cubby Broccoli and Harry Saltzman were unable to get hold of the novel for their film franchise in 1961. Years later, during the 1990s, the rights eventually ended up under the control of MGM as a result of a settlement with SONY.
So we’ve got the name of Bond 21 but we’ve got no Bond, As for the rest of the actors casted: Once again, Judi Dench will play M. and John Cleese will be Q. and Colin Salmon will be Charles Robinson, however the casting of a new Miss Moneypenny is still undecided. Also Bond 21 will be directed by Martin Campbell, who also directed Brosnan's as Bond in the premiere GoldenEye, and has his own ideas about reinventing the franchise. So that still leaves us with the 007 million dollar question who will play the next Bond.
According to Current news world wide there are 9 candidates that are being considered, but no decision yet, - we’re still waiting guys??

So I say why not let the people decide as the Bond bosses can’t.

Yea, they're remaking it into a more serious show, with a younger Bond (than usual).

All the actors above look fairly crap, tbh. And I heard Q wasn't in this one.

wouldn't be james bond without Q.

Clive Owen would be pretty good; you should be shot for even mentioning Orlando Bloom and Colin Farrell.

Realistically I can only see Clive Owen being any good, especially after seeing him in Sin City. He's be pretty good for the part, he's got that look and style about him.

Brosnan's portrayal of Bond was excellent, and Goldeneye imo was the best Bond film since Connery's departure. The rest of them weren't great though, Tomorrow Never Dies as a film itself being one of the worst Bond movies out of the franchise.

pierce is back in the frame cos the producers cant come to an agreement on anyone else, sony still want him too considering the last fews bonds were the most successful with die another taking in excess of 400million $..

    http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050914e.php

i personally think they should give it to pierce again, but change the formula slightly, it was getting a little cheesy, brosnan was still great though

if this works...i fear the remake bandwagon might affect the bond series so much that they might even think of *shock* remaking good bond films. *shudders at the thought of a goldfinger remake*

Is'nt the actor who plays Q dead? thats why they have John Cleese playing R or something, his replacement.

Craig's a lanky, weedy guy. He would not do. Clive Owen for me I'm afraid.

Eh? I saw DC in OurFriendsInTheNorth and he was a pretty muscular guy. I think he'd have been a great Bond in the Connery style.

If anyting CliveOwen on the other comes off as the proverbial perfumed-ponce in most things.

I think Colin Farrell would make a good Bond, even Brosnan him self sad it, in a resent interview.
We’ve got to support our own don’t you think!

 No dear God no. Not him.

Clive Owen or Ewan McGregor would be my choice(s).

Clive Owen, Ewan McGregor, Eric Bana, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jude Law, Colin Farrell, Orlando Bloom would all be crap as james bond.

Out of that list only Pierce Brosnan could be considered. What about the guy from Nip/Tuck who plays Christian Troy? He might be good.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

    Jonathan Rhys Meyers
Clive Owen is the only reasonable choice there.
after his performances in Sin City and The Croupier, he has me won.

i seem to recall reading (in a tabloid, admittedly) that Farrell isn't in the running.
    hopefully it's true :o

Out of those listed, my choices would be:

Clive Owen, 41 Bio Jonathan Rhys Meyers 28 Bio
    Jude Law, 32 Bio

Yeah Christian from Nip / Tuck would be good :)

I just remembered his name. Julian McMahon. He already plays a womanising role in Nip/Tuck so it would probably suit him well.

we're all forgetting the finest actor of our generation, Will Ferrell.. he'd make a great bond.. I'd go see it anyway...

I remember reading in the paper that Clive Owen specifically stated he didn't want the part, has this since been rescinded? I'd like to see Brosnan back of the options above.

    Ewan McGregor
I would like to see Clive Owen in the role, but can't really see it hapening.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Jude Law both seem a little soft to me... Brosnen would be grand (and has been in the past) but I kind of like the idea of a somewhat younger Bond. And also, sticking with the same old actor it'll be harder to find that 'new direction' they're looking for... unless thats all shop-talk, as Brosnan said in the article linked to above.

I thought i heard that SONY wanted Brosnan to do the next two Bonds, that they were not prepared to take a gmable with a new actor, failing that i would like to see clive owen or daniel craig, who is hardly too weedy as Brosnan is no Swartzenegggggggger ;)

    Ewan McGregor
Clive Owen is the best on offer but he reckons the role should go to a new face, maybe he's worried about getting bogged down in mega-productions which take too long to both make and promote.

If they don’t appoint Clive Owen then I couldn’t even be bothered going to see the new film.

tbh, i don't think it's the actor they should be replacing, whoever wrote and directed the last few should be replaced

Personally, I'd like to see Paul Bettany, a far better actor than a number of the pretty boys in the poll. Perhaps Jack Davenport would be a good choice too, or Rufus Sewell?

Pierce Brosnan has been hinting to the media over the past few days that the situation has changed and he is willing to step back into the 007 roll for a fifth and final time if the call from the producers came. Following his Editors Special Award earlier this month, Brosnan gave an interview with GQ that revealed the true state of affairs. On the subject of his pay demands for a fifth movie, which was over hyped and overblown by the tabloid press to a staggering figure of £20m ($30m USD), Brosnan set the record straight: "Twenty million? Oh no, rubbish. Oh for God's sake. Bollocks. No way. No, it was a handsome figure of maybe £10 million or something like that.
In a press exclusive report back in February that the figure Brosnan was allegedly asking for was actually £10m ($17m USD) a figure now confirmed by Brosnan himself and not that staggering considering he was reportedly paid around $16.5m USD (~£10m) for Die Another Day. “So the tabloids got it wrong again”.
So what do Sony think about their newly acquired franchise being stalled due to the vacant lead role?
Brosnan candidly explained, "Sony are pulling their hair out over it, apparently. I was in their offices just a few weeks ago pitching Thomas Crown 2. They said, "come back" and I said "it's not up to me, guys." "I think I was caught up between the egos of the producers and the studios, really. They (the producers) didn't know whether to go younger, they didn't know what to do, period. I don't know what the truth is. It could be as honest as that, but it seems strange, especially as each film made more and more money. But Producers have been silent on the whole affair ever since the first headlines speculated that Brosnan's tenure as 007 was over. "Maybe it's all a big, clever ploy just to bang the drum. We've seen it over the years with Sean and Roger" said Brosnan in the GQ interview. Since then rumours have come out that Pierce Brosnan is now the top contender for the role of James Bond in "Casino Royale" after all, due to studio pressure and the lack of an obvious candidate to replace him. No date has been set for an official announcement on the role, but news it imminent.
Also on the net I read that Hugh Jackman becoming the next actor to step into the role of James Bond won’t happen now,
"I'm not doing Bond,"said Jackman, who is filming "X-Men 3" in Vancouver with the last Bond girl Halle Berry.

Hopefully thisl turn out good, Pierce brosnan was IMO the best portrayal of bond yet however people always think conery was better but conery got better movies i mean the only good bond film that pierce was in was goldeneye the rest were crap.

I'd like to see Brosnan back, he's the best since Connery.
I thought the bit where he went renegade in Die Another Day was fairly well done, they should look into letting brosnan get a bit more menacing in the role if he gets it.

Other than that, Clive Owen is the only other man for the job IMO.

Having heard past rumours of Tarantino wanting to do a Bond, I was kinda hoping the regular Bond role would go to Owen, and that Brosnan would go the Tarantino route. Kinda like Connery did with never say never again.
    we'll see I suppose.

    Pat.

For me a good bond must be suave, very sophisticated, mature, Ruggedly built and manly, quitely handsome with dark good looks and have a self assurance bordering on cocky while remaining likeable. The only person on that list who matches those criteria for me is Pearse Brosnon. I thought he was a great Bond(up there with the best. I suppose the closest on the list would be Orlando Bloom but he's just too boyish for the role imo.

Eh? How could anyone even consider him for Bond? Even if he was 20 years older. I'm gutted Brosnan didn't continue as Bond as IMHO he has been on par, if not better then Connery. I'm willing to give Craig a chance though. He could surprise us all. Doubtful, but stranger things have happened :)
