    Almost any FTA DVB-s receiver.
Not UTV/ITV1 & ITV 2 today, but soon.
    Not C4 & Five

You just buy it. No subscription, though you still need a TV licenc even if you don't watch RTE and cut down the TV aerial.

But over 200 UK TV channels inc
    BBC1 (all regions), BBC2 (four nations) Cbbc/BBC4, Cbeebies/ BBC3, BBC Palriament, BBC News 24, ITV3, "men&Motors" (ITV4?, ITV4 is available from 1st Novemebr),
CNN, ITV News, Euronews, Al Jazzera, Sky News,

70 UK radio stations inc all BBC "nations".
    BBC World Radio

FTA = Free To Air = No viewing card
FTV = Free to View = Sky Digibox and once off bought card to UK address*
PPV, Pay TV = Need a monthly subscription and Sky Digitbox and viewing card*

It is just like buying a TV or Radio.
see www.satellite.ie and Froogle for supplies.

    You need:
Dish (80cm recommended, but 55cm will do for BBC)
    LNB
    CT100 type double screened cable
    two F-Connectors
    SCART cable
    DVB-s "Set top" box.

It can be DIY installed. Install costs vary from free (someone sell the equipment a bit expensively) to about €100.

There are about 20 Satellite positions you can get in Ireland.

One has BBC (22 odd channels), ITV3 & Men&Motors, Sky News, ITV news, Euronews, CNN, BBC News24, several pop video, several old movie and info channels, about 60 shopping channels, about 10 religious channels and about 70 radio stations.

The is the "Sky" platform at 28.2 East

ITV1 & ITV2 need a UK viewing card that only woirks in a Sky Digibox, but some time between now and end of Jan 2006 they will work FTA. Today they are FTV. C4 and "Five" are FTV.

FTV works with a once off bought card to a UK address, or a current or cancelled UK subscription to Sky.
No FTV channel works with an Irish Subscription.

You can also get FTA using a €80 card in a PC. A dish & LNB is still needed, but recording of BBC etc then gives playback equal to live quality.

A motor with a FTA receiver box will give over 1100 TV and over 900 radio. Unless you are interested in French, German etc many are no use, though there many sport, pop video and english broadcasts on non-english language stations. Also more explicit "adult content" than is broadcast in the UK.

You can delete unwanted channels :-)

Depending on your location if no decent installer is nearby, some folk in the forum are expert at installs and may help.

I suspect you are far away from kciremil City though.

*Dutch, Swiss, Danish, Swedish etc FTV schemes need a different box and card system to Sky.
*It is possible to legally get susbscription to non-Sky European satellite suppliers, again a different box and not easy to arrange.
*FTV cards can be arranged, but unless you have a relative in the target Country, is is complicated.
    * Only using a fake, copy or pirate card or reception of Pay TV different to what you pay for is illegal in EU & Irish law. Use of a legitimate card outside of the intended area is not a criminal offence, though it may break a contract with supplier (which is enforcable only by disabling the card). The cards always belong to the supplier.

P.S. my FTA box is giving me 24 hrs Katrina & Rita coverage from MSNBC NTSC transatlantic feed.

I have a Sky Digibox for FTV TV, and in the past sometimes Subscription TV. Also BBC & Sky "Interactive"

I have a Palcom DSL4 FTA box with 80cm dish and Motek motor drive (Total cost maybe about €300?). It gets over 20 satellites, in c the BBC etc.

I have an Analog Satellite box for some Analog Satellite TV not FTA on Digital. Fed by loop out on the PalcomDSL4 in standby.

I have a PC card with 4 LNBs on two dishes for 28.2E, (SKy/ BBC), Hotbird 13E, Astra 19E and Telstar12 @ 15W. It record and plays back direct to TV, or via making a Video DVD.

you should buy a copy of 'what satellite' magazine before buying any equipment.
A little homework will go a long way.
It's a good place to start.
