LCD Monitor by mail

Has anyone ever bought a monitor over mail order/internet? I'm looking to get myself a 19" LCD monitor but I can find nothing decent for sale in Dublin (looked in Marx Computers, Peats, PC World) and Komplett has loads at great prices. Just seems very strange to get something that size and that fragile sent in the mail, plus there's the worry that I'll open it and find a load of stuck pixels etc. and be stuck with something unsatisfactory.

Has anyone any advice on how to get the best value/quality monitor in Dublin? Is it okay to order from someone like Komplett?

    cheers.

If you buy something the size of a monitor from Komplett (or indeed most online shops) it won't come by mail, it will come by courier service. Komplett are one of the most reliable online dealers out there, have no fear of buying from them.

Yup, I got LCD screens from them before.
Only problem is courier cost might push it up enough that its not worthwhile.

Hey, that's brilliant. Thanks for all the replies folks, it is very reassuring to hear you've ordered with no problems etc. Think I'll definitely go with Komplett now and those BenQ monitors do look a good choice too.

    Thanks again.

you should check out dabs.co.uk too, they can be quite competitive at times. Got a beautiful Viewsonic VX715 off of them last year

Oh and I forgot to mention that there is an interaction forum here on boards for Komplett here . There is a representative of Komplett going by the boards nickname 'MCKomplett' on there who will answer questions about orders/ordering if you have any.

I got a 17" Acer from dabs.co.uk a few years ago and it's still in great condition, no dead pixels anyway.

I got my illyiama (or whatever) from Komplett via GLS and it was perfect. In fairness the packaging is designed to be hurled around so don't let that stop you.

Yeah, I've got a Iiyama from Komplett as well, 3 other friends of mine ordered the same one from Komplett. See them all regularly enough and none have any dead pixels, as its something I check regularly for them by fiddling with the desktop backgrounds, making 'em various solid colours to show up anything. The oldest one, mine has been in use up to 12 hours a day on a fulltime basis since the first week of last February and I've had no problems whatsoever with it. The others are flawless too, one since April, one since May and one since June, though none would be used as much as mine on a daily basis.

Dead pixels (generally) don't come about through use or wear and tear. They're manufacturing defects.

Well in that case Iiyama appear to make good lcd/tft screens. :)
While we are on the subjecty of lcd manufacturing, is it true that the light source/bulb of whatever sort in tft monitors may need replacing after a few years of use?
