Stephen King - Modern Prophet (Reality TV Wise!)

    Just watching C4 at the mo (22:10 - 22-9-05).

    I can't believe whats passing as reality TV around the world.

    Running Man et al seems tame, Climbing for dollars seems sappy. In moscow one tv show involves the police allowing a contestant to steal a car, they then chase them for 35 mins if they don't get caught they keep the car!

    Next a girl in Americay gives her "unwanted" baby away to one of five couples, after decied within 30 mins who was the best parent!

    More to come later.....

    Stephen King, the American horror author, wrote The Running Man (Ignore the movie - ok, but its not the book at all), based on a dystopian future where members of the public would put themselves on reality tv shows for money, most involved the contestants being killed or maimed, the Ultimate was "The Running Man" where a man would be chased by hunters if he won he won big, but it was tellivised, and members of the public could join in by giving info on the Runners whereabouts.

    Series 7 the Contenders was another type of "Reality TV" gone mad.

    Just think Roman Circuses with TV cameras!

    But after watching the programme on C4 last night, were not too far off those visions now.

    I especially liked the show where the Japanese birds lost their virginity live on telly. They do some crazy stuff over there. The bit when your man showed the "proof" that she was a virgin had me spitting my tea back up.
