Has anybody seen this movie? It is without a doubt, the best martial arts movie in the last decade. Absolutely astounding.. No special effects, just pure muay thai. If you haven't seeen it, rent it now!!

its been out for years, it only made the big screen here in the last few months..

there a post i put on irmac.net in the thai section about this new film, supposed to be even better, than ong bak.

on a side note he spent 7 years in a temple learning all that old thai stuff for the movies... thats dedication

Nice one Paddy! I know it's been out for 2 or 3 years now, but I waited for the english subtitled version.. It's a really solid film - Good acting, and great fight scenes. I literally clapped after watching it - It's that damn good. I'll check out that one you posted on irmac bud. Looking forward to seeing it.

Poor film but great action. Is it all Muay Thai ? just asking because i was in Thailand and seen a few Muay Thai fights and there was none of that acrobatic stuff

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

Well, it's spiced up a little for the big scene but the foundation of it all is muay thai. He's obviously a skilled practitioner. Why do you consider it a poor film Rasta? I found it highly entertaining..

its old thai, mate from the battel fields of old, not the ring sport, so you shouldnt confuse the 2 of them..

one a sport and a damn good one at that, the other is a martial art from the battle fileds

Great action sequences in this film, and really opened my eyes to Muai Thai a bit. Loved the use of downward elbow strikes in the film. I hope that this guy makes a few more movies for us to enjoy as he's seriously talented.

IMDB lists a few upcoming projects for him - including http://www.tomyumgoongmovie.com/main.htm which came out this year - I think paddy was talking about

I saw a copied video on a crappy telly with no subtitles :(

I have it at on dvd now and while the stryline is awful like all MA films the action is amazing. I loved the bit at the end where he demoed the stunts in real time

check out bang rajan, historical epic with thai battlefiled weapons and the most heroic 'tache in modern cinema :D

You're all on the wrong buzz. The bestest film of all time is Ninja Terminator. Get it, you won't regret it.

American Shaolin - that is all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,398 ✭✭✭columok

    "Ninja Terminator"?

I prefer the ninja squad. Two different films (one a philipino gangster film and the other 80s american ninjas in illuminous suits) seamlessy mixed together.

Good movie that. I like Jet Li's movies in general but some of the moves and stuff in Unleashed, where just class.

Gonna watch it tonight, nice relaxing film before bed.

Yeah Unleashed is class, prefer the french release name though, Danny The Dog, got it on dvd now with french subs. :D
i'd put Fist of the North Star as my flic. I shall learn to punch like that

ps. Congrats on the Modship Dudara

There must be a series of those Colum cos that's exactly what Nia Terminator is! Also, Golden Ninja Warrior and your Squad one. They're fantastic stuff. As you say, the editing is fantastic, you'd hardly notice that they were in fact two films....

They seem to be going missing left, right and centre. I am painfully unamused. It's absolute arse like.

After very good recommendations from the Scuttery1 and Bambi I was dying to see Ong Bak, and when the Sayoc guys were here in April they were also dying to see it and slagged me off bigtime because they wanted to watch it with a guy who does Thai. Managed to get a loan of it from one of my students (and have misplaced it since but thats another story). Guess what after a weeks training with them, I had to go and fall asleep halfway through the friggin film :o . Talk about getting a further roasting!!!
Now the Scuttery1 has given me Bang Rajan to watch and I still haven't as I haven't had the time and don't want to fall asleep again (my party piece, even without beer!) when I watch this one.

The movie in question can be bought here from play.com
    http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=mcrpr&page=title&r=R2&title=653854

It usually takes about 6 days or so to get to Ireland (from UK), p&p is free. You pay the price you see, no hidden charges.

Interweb. Games reviews, previews news and tech news style stuff. One of the sites I write for has started into film reviews which seems to be "by request" reviewing.

I wish I did MA writing but I wouldn't know where to begin.

    http://www.banlieue13-lefilm.com/site1/index.html

Hey all, based of the previous run of the thread you should all like this, starring one Cyril Raffaelli ( who may you remember as the smaller of the two Blonds from Kiss of the Dragon, and you were hopefully impressed with his final fight scene against Mr Li. It also stars one David Belle, who some of you may have heard off as he is a former martial artist and one of the founding fathers of Parkour, or Free Running.

It's well worth a watch as the fight scenes are some of the most impressive I have seen!

Sorry to bump this up again guys, but I just got my copy of Ong-Bak in the post today from play.com

Wow...... what a f**kin' great movie. The moves/stunts are amazing. Was well worth the buy!

    I loved the tuk-tuk chase:D
Unreal show had to watch in with subtitles cause the english dubbing was awful..."alright our kid"
Stunts were class and how the hell can he get his leg/knee/elbow/fists do that, loved the way he dropped that big ham with a knee to the jaw in the fight club, did'ne see that coming...
    Some athelete.

A certain Belfast individual (NOT KRABIK!!) who shall remain nameless was very prone to trying (don't think I should say TRY as he always got them to do it) to instigate Tuk Tuk chases when we were in Bangkok by paying the drivers extra if they'ed race back to the hotel everytime we got in one. And believe me these guys didn't need any encouragement so you can imagine what they did, with their Tuk Tuk's for a few extra Baht

I remember seeing the movie yonks ago nearly two years at this stage if not over... just bought the newly released copy with dubbing and seen it with subtitles in the cinema...
the mysterious copy i originaly got as a two disc dvd from thailand which had no interactive menu's or menus' in general and was completley in thai except for when that other guy speaks laow...
and it's still better the only word you need to know to watch this movie is "chuck wow". i had my thai friend, who brought it back from thailand translate the storyline properly and it still made no differance.

Just saw this on the weekend...

I'm not a fan of martial arts movies but rather movies with martial arts in
them, if you know what i mean.... like Kurasawa's movies, the "Bourne" films, "Saving Private Ryan" and stuff like that. I wasn't impressed with it to be honest.. then again i'm not 14. :D

Having said that, I did like the opening sequence with the tree, and it was above average in it's stunt-choreography and it had nice cinematography.

The guy of Ong Bak is not bad, I mean he is good, however he is not so damn good, you know what I mean. As far as the movie it is crap...:v: :D
