I have two computers and need to transfer music, video, etc from one computer to the other.there is approx 40gigs in total.I have a mp3 player which i could use but that has only a 2gb memory and is only usb1.1 so its not really an option...is there a way that i could quickly directly connect the two of them up so that i could cut and paste them?

if they both have network cards then using a crossover cable is prob the quickest way. Set the ip address on one to 192.168.1.1 and the other to 192.168.1.2 and enable file and printer sharing. Then you can just drag and drop from one PC to the other.

The other way is to remove the HD from one PC and install it in the other. Then jsut drag and drop the files you want from the old HD to the new HD

You realise of course that unless both PC's have gigabit Ethernet , then transferring with a crossover cable is going to take ages , 40 gigs , let me see , at 10 mb/ sec that would take all night , even at 100 mb /s your talking at least 2 or 3 hours , and thats assuming maximum throughput !!

The best bet is to take out the hard drive , put it into the pc you want and copy it over , should be done is less than an hour !!

when i said quickest, i meant in terms of ease of setting up without having 2 open two cases up and messing with HD cables etc. sorry for the confusion.

I'd go with the HD option myself but not everyone is comfortable with tinkering inside the case. Thats why I offered the network cable idea as well.

IPC$ i making a connection directly to the other pc...basically like setting up a lan between the two pc's,(wthout the knowledge of the owner of the other computer)..ive never tried transfering files though.waiting a few hours isnt a big deal...just need to have it done by early next week.
