I know this has been covered but the search function is fúcked and i don't really fancy trawling through pages looking for something similar.

My Point? I was just coming home on the M11 and was maybe/probably caught speeding, i was overtaking some trucks and was probably going around the 125km/h mark?

My question? What are the chances i was caught? as i was behind the truck for some time and when i realized there was a gard up ahead i kinda breaked and used the 4X4 in front of me to hide myself, kinda. The 4X4 was also speading, as well as every other car on the road.

So how does these cameras work? Can they detect multiple speeders at the same time or just one? As in the 4X4 in front of me would be caught but not me? Would i have to be in view of the camera for a certain period of time before it detects i'm speeding?

And if i was caught, what can i expect?

    Thanks for the replies :p

PS - Lets not get all high and mighty, i know i was speeding and that's not in question, so no smart comments ;)

From what your saying I'd say you got away with it if it was a cop with a speed gun. I think they have to stop you. If it was a camara I think you may be caught. I got caught 8km over the limit three weeks ago and the b*****d
followed me for two miles but strange thing was I got no ticket on the spot, he checked my licence, never cautioned me, but I did get a summons in the post and he got the reg. of my car wrong. I'm wondering if the vehicle info is wrong is the summons valid?

I think if he got the reg wrong you will get away with it. The judge will throw the case out.

The only thing is the fine came to my licence address (he checked my licence) and my car is registered to my work address?

LundiMardi, 125km overtaking with a 120km speedlimit - you will almost surely not get done for that. I understand that they generally allow a certain percentage of a cushion, in the event that their speed gun isn't perfect. Having said that, I'm surprised that junkyard got a summons for being 8km over... unless it was 58km in a 50km zone?

I have passed guards at around 12km over the speedlimit many times with no problem.

Your speed says 125Kmh then your actual speed is approx 121Kmh
Your actual speed is approx 121Kmh then the gun will read approx 117Kmh

    I'd say you are okay.

I often use a GPSr in my car, and generally at that speed (120km) you're going 10km slower than what it says on your speedo - the speedo would say 120kph, and the GPSr would say 110kph.
I know it's not just my car - I have tried it in 3 different ones with similar results. So I guess this cushion is actually built into each car?

    I'm only approximating 125km, i can't be sure, but i was defo under 130km..

how are those cameras, does the guard have to point it at a certain vehicle or does it take into account every vehicle in the shot?

It has to be pointed at the particular car as far as I know.

if that's the case then the 4X4 in front of me would have been caught, not myself.

    Fingers crossed!!

I've noticed that with my car it's reading 10k slower at 100km/h as I drove alongside my brother's truck on the M1 and his is limited to 90km/h. Hence I constantly drive at an indicated 130km/h on the motorways.

    Dear All

I'm a taxi driver and watch my speed constantly. I was coming down the N11 towards Dublin City and spotted the Garda Camera Van 100 feet in front of me on the left, right at the side of the road. I looked at my digital speedometer and seen clearly i was doing 65 km/h in a 60 zone. I was frightened that I would be caught but thankfully the two week timeframe for issuing the ticket/fixed charge has passed and I'm okay. This is to put you all at ease if you have a similar situation.

    Kind regards,

    <remove name etc>

Only doing 65? Is that why you showed up 12 years late? :D
