eDonkey has an office? Why? It's not like they're a money-making company or anything, is it?

P2P will always be here. How can it go away? It's such a great and simple tool.

they close one, another opens. Its the way. I don't think they will stop it. Also, with bitorrent on the up, it will be very difficult for them

They'll never be able to stop it fully, so they'll just try to scaremonger as many people as they can into not developing new clients (never gonna happen) or not using it...

Well if by office you mean the boot of the car.

Sure they're money-grabbing corporate bastards, but they kind of have a point. P2P has a file-sharing power beyond music, all you have to do is search for documents on the Gnutella network to know that.

Sad to see it go....loved it too, didn't use it at all really in the last few years but still, the most user friendly imo

Yeah I agree, it was just basic and to the point, unlike Kazaa and all those flashy kind of ones. More flashiness = more spyware. Rule of thumb :p

By "P2P" do you also mean bittorrent?

    Because that aint going nowhere...

Bittorrent is different from the other P2P networks as it is an OPEN SOURCE program. Unlike the others that are full of ad's spyware and spam Bitorrent is free and also has legitimate uses. I wouldnt care much for the others like kazaa as i stopped caring about them really but dont expect bittorrent or P2P to just dissapear. Not to mention the fact that since bittorrent is completely legitimate compared to the others dont expect that P2P program to dissapear so quickly....

Yes I agree with all that.

One small point tho... "Bittorrent" itself is not open source in the accepted sense. I know some bittorrent clients (eg Azureus) are open source, but some others are definately not.

But I agree with your main point.

Nobody seems to be mentioning dc++. Its just leaps ahead of any p2p program i've used and i've tried them all.

The web by its nature is all about information transfer, so stoping p2p is like fúcking for virginity.

I don't think they could ever completely stop p2p.

What they can do is threaten a significant enough portion of their users so that less people share so that the amount of copyright material available becomes neglible as people are less willing to share. Thus less and less people will be bothered to go near them.

As for torrent, I doubt that will ever die.

Was wondering why WinMX wouldn't connect... :(

Winmx was dirt anyway, d++ and soulseek are the best by far.

I never got the hang of DC++. Might try it again.

presumably we'll just see an increase in the use of encrypted and private p2p networks.
you and your friends sharing securely, or using more legaly anonymous protocols like freenet.
all this'll do is slow p2p down a bit - searching will become more difficult with somthing like freenet and private darknets tend towards stale content over time.

meh, tbh. press releases from the riaa

Its not the first to be closed, napster and audio galaxay were closed down but other programs came out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,382 ✭✭✭✭AARRRGH

Hey Kazaa Lite Resurrection has no spyware/flashiness. I use it and it works completely fine...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 794 ✭✭✭electric69

The best p2p programmes are imesh, ares and limewire...they all have spyware WITHOUT EXCEPTION but these are the best imo. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

Fine apart from the fact that all the files are bogus, viruses or just plain sh*tty quality.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 691 ✭✭✭Ajnag

Nicotine tbh, Sustanence in both real life and computer form. Not to mention dcc's and torrents and ftp's and......

Lol, Cant wait until the riaa trys to ban internet protocols like ftp and irc. HA!
Arrogant bastards probably will try and all, Go for it, I could do with the entertainment.

Slight bitch about imro while im at it. Every business owner in the country is expected to pay them if a radio is used on the premise's, but havent the radio stations already paid for the rights to play that music in public. Isnt this in essence a form of exploitation and double taxation?
