What do you think of the Peoples Republic of Cork Forum/Website/T-Shirts?

I call on all you LANGERS/SHAMS/ETC/OTHER RUBBISH HERE to voice your opinions!

Forum: Personally I don't use it, I prefer boards cos it's bigger and there's less langer speak. I find that all the people living in Australia, UK, USA etc try to sound more "Cork" than they actually are.

Website: I don't like it's design and it takes ages to load. BUT I do like the idea of a Cork "homepage". Somewhere you can go to get snippets of news/info about what’s going on around the place.

T-Shirts: I own one, and have had it for a very long time (7+ years). I bought it in that wonderful pre-commercialisation period before they started making them available wholesale. I actually bought it from the place in the English Market. I think that it's deadly that people are wearing them, as long as they actually have a claim to the place. But... and there's always a but, I don't like the idea of the "Peoples Republic of Cork" turning into some sort of commercial enterprise. Personally, I think they should take that stupid online shop off the internet for good.

    Ex.

PROC t-shirts, do you own one, how do you feel when wearing it? 20 votes

Forum? Meh. Not really what I'm looking for in a forum, but then few places are. There's enough people on there regularly that it must be getting something right though, I suppose.

Website? I don't frequent it enough to notice or care about design issues, load times, etc.

T-shirts? Don't own one, don't want one. Partly because it's become a bit of a cliché for someone trying to prove how Corkonian they are (especially if they're not originally from Cork) and partly because, well, on a purely aesthetic level I think they look kind of crap.

Then again, while I'm cork-born I didn't grow up here, so no doubt I'm just an ill-informed langer or something. Meh.

Don't like the forums because of the amount of slang and so forth. They're simply too much work to read.

Website is teenage humour for the most part. Kind of like the articles you'd find in the rag mag in college. Now I know the guy who set all this up and he's a great guy, very smart and dedicated to making this work. But the articles just don't work for me.

As to the t-shirts, they're probably done to death at this stage, I just bought a Cork2005 orange boys t-shirt to wear instead for those days I want to declare the Corkonian side to me.

Forum is awful, but i think even the PRC admin realise that at this point. Closed shop really. That said, i occassionally post there.

The website itself is top class. Unlike Dudura, I actually think the humour is great, and would be over alot of teenagers heads.

The Tshirts are meh at this point. That said, I think the PRC shop is an invaluable asset. There are so may Cork 'ex pats' who can now have their identity in foreign lands without having to buy a suitcase full of clothes when home at xmas.

And to follow, I think having a PRC website is a great idea. It gives the idea that we all know, we are better. Also, how many times in the past has someone moved to London/Boston/wherever and come home with the slang of that place, or worse still the accent. The PRC at least offers these poor souls who have had to leave our wonderful city, a chance to keep in touch of whats happening.

    Thumbs up from me.

if't website were a person, I'd gladly reverse over it several times in order that it might never make any shape or form of putrid squeal ever again; thereby giving the good citizens of t'internet .0000000000000001% less utter shíte (that's french) to wade through in the course of a rummage. I'd be h'awarded so I would. Freedom of t'city. Or at least a great whomping chocolately key covered in gold foil.

I h'own a t-shirt, but any link drawn between the two is simply too disgustimitating to ponder on.

When I grow up I want to be as tolerant as you ;-)

I had a gawk at it once but the amount of slang threw me not being a true Corky...(Gin & Ton-Ton anyone ?).

    Forum:
Never had a look, so can't comment.

    Website:
Love it. I check back regularly for new items and send links to relations abroad! It's a great idea! Very funny and enjoyable.

    T-Shirt
Yes I have one and wear it often enough, but don't feel I need to, to prove how Corkonian I am. I just like wearing it.

    Overall
A big thumbs up from me. And if anybody from PROC is peeking in here...... Well done and keep up the good work!

You can see the forum here: http://www.peoplesrepublicofcork.com/~peoplesr/forums/index.php?

Forum: Not great, lots of *really* crap posts. I prefer the Cork City forum here even though it's not as busy. The PRoC music forum is grand.

Website: Very good. Most of the articles are funny enough. Nice simple design too.

T-Shirt: I have the red t-shirt and the green hoody (I like that one). Wear the hoody a lot, not the shirt though.

I think the website is pretty good but as for the forums.....God help us - some of the crap in there is unreal. Never posted there and probably never will, like.

The website and the articles are good enough, but the Forum itself...its the biggest pile of whale poo ever put on the internet.

I wish I could see those wanna be Cork boys in real life to see how sad they are. Have about 7 posts on it from about the last 2-3 years. Practically all of them telling posters like Naff Jacket and D'Lough to go Fcuk themselves with a hurley. Good for the stress relief though I must say. :)

Naff has been perma banned for making a really stupid joke about the London bombings! he has also been told that if he signs up again, it will be reported to his place of employment (or so Im told).

Most of them aren't from Cork.

I really like that Tshirt that has a Cork Tube map printed on the front... makes me smile every time I see it!

Oddest place you've met someone wearing a PROC T-shirt? For me it was in an obscure little village on the shores of Lake Malawi in Southern Africa, or the Grand in Killarney
