If you don't have USB 2.0 ports on your machine, then you can definitely avoid the USB TV Tuners. I read somewhere that USB 1.0 was too slow for decent video transfer.

Next you need to worry about analog or digital tuners.
Analog : Will work with your old co-axial cable, from your cable provider eg. NTL, or feed from an aerial.

Digitial: I think it's fair to assume that you need a digital tuner for digital TV.

The cheap tv tuners will have analog tuners... the expensive ones... digitial.

that's about all I can say.
I've an ancient All-in-wonder pro graphics card with a tv tuner.
Also, at least for analog... I think the audio needed to be routed through a sound card for capturing. So you "may" need a sound card too.
Not sure if that's a requirement for the digital cards.

That's all the decision factors I can think of !

    regards,
    Owen

if u can find a Hauppage WinTV card at a pcworld for 50 euro or thereabouts pick one up. The software that comes with them is bollox, but download DScaler and use that and youll be surprised by how good the quality can be. cheap too

Won't work in this country as NTL encrypts it's digital feed. All you can do is use an analogue tuner to record the output from the decoder box.

No Nocturnal, means hs has normal aerial connection,
I got a good pci Tv tuner from aldi last year.
It came with card, fm aerial, remote, line in cable for sound and a program.

On the card is s-video, fm, tv aerial, compostite, line out connections
The program with it records tv in mpeg2,mpeg4, tunes in tv channels, lets u edit recorded items, covert files, burn dvds, record radio, schedule recordings, Take snapshots, and more

    Pretty much everything you want.
    And all for €35
