New ntl digibox forcing my TV to 16:9 zoom

    Hi,

Just got ntl: digital installed (again!). Have one of those new small Pace digiboxes this time. However, when I watch a 4:3 it switches my widescreen into 16:9 Zoom mode (which looks awful and crops the top and bottom!).

On my last ntl: digibox I could set ithe TV to whatever aspect ratio I wanted and my TV remembered my preference. However with this digibox it forces all 4:3 output to 16:9 Zoom mode regardless!

    Any ideas?

depending on a lot of things

did you try changing the output on the digi box?

4:3 pan & scan prob the best but play around to get the best

sounds as though your tv is 'stretching' the pic

what make tv do you have?

my box is outputting on 4:3 P&S (silver box)
tv is a sharp 28" (? model no )
has several modes (full / normal / zoom [14:9] / auto / panorama) - left on 'full' and no probs with pic format

On my ntl: box (older silver model) it switches my tv into widescreen mode for 16:9 material but defaults to whatever the tv defaults to for 4:3 stuff, which on my Philips TV is "Super Zoom".

My dinky silver box can't make its bloody mind up! Sometimes it'll go 16:9 when watching BBC (as it should) but somtimes it stays 4:3 so i have to atler the picture ratio maually with my TV remote (which has two ratios availible).

    Mike.

Yes, the digibox is correctly set to 16:9 as I have a widescreen TV.

Is your TV widescreen? If so, having your digibox set to '4:3 pan & scan' means you are losing part of the image on widescreen broadcasts.

It's a Philips and is the same TV I used with my previous ntl: digibox - and that setup worked fine.

Yes, that's what I want this digibox & TV to do. However the small digibox is forcing my TV to '14:9 zoom' regardless. :(

I'm having the same problem - TV (correctly) goes into "widescreen" when the programme is in anamorphic, but reverts to "16:9 Zoom" for programmes that are in any other format (this is not the default behaviour for the TV, it seems to be a signal coming off the digibox).

I have the digibox set to 16:9 - if I choose the other options ("pan & scan" or "letterbox") then i don't get proper widescreen when its available.
