i may buy an inspiron as a desktop replacement.i'll be doing a bit of web browsing and digital camera/photography stuff on it.my question ,is there a lot of difference between all the different type screens they do xga/sxga/wxga/wuxga ?.i dunno wether to get the 15/15.4 or the 17 inch screen.i want a pentium m but processing power isnt a huge concern for me .is the wuxga 17" screen on the 9300 way better than the 15 inch sxga for looking at photographs etc. or are dell screens good in general at all?

Bigger screens are more power consuming too.
Any 15-15.4 should do, you can also hook the laptop up to an external CRT/TFT.

Really nice are the high bright ones.

what's it like for displaying photographs and dvd playback compared to 15" screen? what made you buy it?.is it the same as the xps2 with the high-end graphics card thanks

Yup, the XPS2 has the 688 Ultra in it. That was the main motivation for buying it to be honest but the screen was a big of a bonus. However, it must be that the Sonly X-Black screen are even better.

Go to www.notebookforums.com and have a look around there.

personally I think the dell 15.4" Wuxga screens are the perfect compromise on size and resolution. 1920x1200 is a fantastic size for a desktop - small text might be a bit hard on the eyes though. Next down is 1680x1050 which is also good.

Personally I wouldnt touch a 17" lappy unless you arent going to be lugging it about.
