How to leave new job?

Im looking for some advice on how to handle leaving a job i only just started.

I've just finished college, and was looking for something to keep me going, and last week i started a job in a clothes shop. But now ive been offered better money, less hours, and closer for basic office work, which I think id be silly not to take.

But this new job doesnt start for about 2 weeks. So i dont know when to tell the clothes shop (or what to say!). They might not want me to work my 2 weeks notice since i havent been there long and they have trained me in properly on most things (eg. their till), so i might be better off leaving it for a week or 2 before telling them. but if i wait a week or 2 then they might want me to work the 2 weeks.

I'm confused! Any suggestions on what way I should go about this? and what to say?

Your only new, i've seen this happen in a few places i've worked and most of the time people just leave and don't come back. Your best job is to say you've been offered a job in the field that your qualified in and its too good an opportunity to refuse, offer to work the following two weeks and that will do then.

Tell this to your supervisor/boss and they will most likely understand and even if they don't your not there long enough to have to work a notice AFAIK :)

To be honest, places like cloths shops have a massive turn over in staff, and they can usually get someone new in (like a student or part-timer) with short notice.

But like Farls said, they've seen it all before with staff...so just tell them exactly what you said here, and offer to work notice (or if you need the money, just say "I'll be leaving on the Xth" ...I.E. 2 weeks away, so you'll get your wages up untill you start new job ;))

Don't worry, they wont get mad, and I doubt they'll go under if you left them in limbo! :D

Well done on the new job, and good luck. :)

I agree. Once you've got the other job (passed the interview, etc), don't stay too long. Work a few days if you want, maybe even a week, and then say you've got offered a job that you're qualified to do. If they don't like it, screw them. You won't be silly not to take the job, you'd be kicking yourself for the next year or so. Its damn hard to get a good office job, so if you can get it, grab it with both hands, and don't let go.
