Search function is disabled on boards hence this thread. Thanks for your time in advance.

I have a machine with a 120gig Western digital in it.
system installed on a 10gig partition at the start, usual /swap etc.
/lan was the mount-point for hda4, a 100Gig XFS partition for the ftp dump and game servers.
The box is used as a server for GalwayLAN. As such it gets moved about a bit in the back of cars and taxis and carried up and down stairs and stuff.
A good few months ago the tail end of the drive (afaik) developed a block of bad sectors.
The output from dmesg and a highlight of the sector numbers are attached below. The data I want is at the start of the partition and I've a hunch that it's relatively simple to do a force mount and pull off what I need. However, my experience with this sort of thing under *nix is limited and I don't want to b0rk things further.

OS is Debian unstable, Woody base install.
What, if anything, can I do to retrieve data from the partition?
It's not *vital* but there was some stuff on there that would save me alot of time and bandwidth not having to retype or get again.

Secondary to the data recovery, how would I go about reformating the partition in XFS (after I do a full rebuild with Sarge) while flagging the bad sectors and only using the healthy sectors? I've a feeling it may well be done automatically, but I want to be sure so that the same problem doesn't happen again.

I know I should've had backups etc. but we run things on a shoestring most of the time and I've been living in relative poverty for the past 4 years (stoooodent) so buying spare 120gig disks for raid1 wasn't really an option.
    Still, no excuse eh? :)

    Any help is appreciated.
