Seeing as there seems to be a delay of at least a week ordering one of these from Apples site (€259 inc. delivery) I was thinking of getting one from elsewhere if it was quicker and cheaper.

Does anyone know of anywhere? I had a look at Ebay, but couldn't see anything too useful.

    Thanks

Not to be daft - but what exactly is laser engraving and what are the implications for re-sale? Thinking of buying one.. thanks

they put your name or other message on the back of the unit, good for a gift like a watch engraving. Some people may not like the engraving if buying it, but most wont care too much. e.g if some hard bloke wants to buy it and it says "to my darling, love always, sebastian xxx"

Ah thanks  Something along the lines of "if you are reading this, this Nano has been nicked.. bastards.." lol! Nice free option but yeah, not really a necessity..

O2 shops don't seem to have them, any other ideas?

Need somewhere in the city centre.

    Thanks

Got 4gb one in Dixons (Jervis St) for €259 this afternoon, same price as online.
Unfortunately they only had the white ones in stock, seeminglg the black ones are selling much faster. I was too impatient to wait for them to come in, or order online.

    Thanks for the help

Apple engages in pretty heavy price-fixing, you're not going to get it cheap mate..
I got mine on the Educational Site for €238 inc shipping, but if you're really cheap, you can get it on the US educational site, send it to state with no sales tax, and have a mate send it to you, which'd be €187 plus USPS to Ireland. Plus you have to wait ages..
Honestly, go out busking, make up the difference in 2 hours, and buy it on the Edu site.

You could wait for people to dump their 2G iPod minis, which have firewire syncing, better battery, and a brilliant belt clip. Nano has no holster or belt clip out of the box btw..

Good stuff, case_sensitive. Some arseholes are flogging that info on eBay for US$6... :D

Going the US route may expose you to a good monetary shafting from customs before they'll let you take delivery of it... Unless of course you're going to be travelling over there in person, or someone's coming the other direction.

To get around the shafting by customs have your mate open it, and mark it either as a gift or a return from repair. No VAT/Excise.

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade- but you might be advised to read this article before buying.....

I don't know  I mean the bloody thing is tiny i wouldn't dream of keeping mine in a pocket with keys and change.

I think some people just expect too much plus there's a distinct anti-ipod group who just love to jump all over any little thing (same happens with any big product).

I love mine :) (and no sign of scratches :D )

Not so- I was talking to my brother who was looking at one in London in the Mac shop there- and said that the display models are all scratched to hell. He was advised by the sales assistant that the white model shows up the scratches less than the black one- but that the shop would shortly be carrying a screen protector similar to sold for Ipaqs. He was also told you could buy fluid online for repairing the screen- he didn't give me the name of it though.
He was also told not to carry the Nano in a pocket and only to clean the screen with a Lint-free cloth, and definitively not one with cotton in it.

There is a new version coming out in a month or two- to address these issues. Apparently its a 'flip-screen' ipod nano. Sounds interesting......

Ummm naturally.. there're on display and being messed about with day in day out.

I have a black nano and can report no problems what-so-ever.

Do i look after it? Of course. Do i carry it around in my pocket with keys and change? Hell no i spent over two hundred quid on it!

You can spend the rest of your life waiting for the 'perfect' product in any catagory so I'm just providing a hands-on counter to the suggestion that the 'scratchs easily' problem should be a reason not to buy a nano. You want one? Buy one.. you won't regret it :)

lads i ordered my 2gig nano with engraving from the apple site and recieved in four days. just got it today and it is tiny. i went for the black version and i have a feeling it will look a tad grubby down the line. but my phone, my old mp3 player, my camera(which i lost) have similar wear and tear too.

Ouch. I thought only a very small amount were affected?

Perhaps if the screen breaks on my white one I can get a black one instead :)
