    Hi,

Was looking at this with interest. Is there a way of just applying to the Civil service, and not an individual post on publicjobs.ie? I have a degree in IT, and would like to get out of that infernal industry as soon as possible. Had a look on publicjobs, but it seems to be individual posts you apply for and not a general application. Can anyone correct me on this?

Every so often they advertise for Clerical Officers and Executive Officers which are general civil service posts but the closing date is now past...

yup - the letter I received this morning had my test for Saturday, but my email / message on publicjobs said Tuesday.
I just got an SMS from publicjobs.ie saying to "ignore letter by post today re test day and check email asap".
    :)

So did you apply on the website or something? How did you hear about it? And does anybody know when they will next be recruiting? I presume this RDS thing isn't something I can just show up to :p

And what is the position like do you have any idea? Pay/type of work and so on??

I would be interested at looking into this further...

Well, check out publicjobs.ie for more on the role etc.

You can't turn up on the day - only if you've been invited. When the next competition is, is anyones guess.

I think it was advertised in the press?

This EO competition is the first one for EO in about three years I think. The pay starts off on just over €28,000. They might be having a CO competition next year but the pay for that is €20,000.

As for what type of work it is, it could literally be anything.

Yep, there'll be thousands of people taking these exams. I went for a job in the CSO last year and I think around 7,000 people took the exams and there were only about 10 jobs at the end of it. You should be sent an info pack in the post, at least I was.

I got the EO last year. I tried the CO and AO tests a good few times and no luck times. Did the EO and got lucky! The best thing to do is practise numerical reasoning. The tests are logical. Dress dosen't matter for the test. Keep an eve on public jobs.ie for upcoming vacancies. Yes they send info packs in the post (well they did when i did the exam).

well, how did people get on?
Verbal reasoning was ok - but I think many felt the hlaf hour went to fast or they werent aware of the time limit (seemed like plenty of groans after).
Numerical reason was ok, but you had to work very fast!
Job simulation was interesting - I wonder how many people answered as to how they'd react as opposed to what they thought the examiners wanted to hear.

Anyone know when the results (do we get them?) or the next round is?

Enter via Anglesea road. There's a hall on the left - I think this is Simmonscourt hall.
Keep walking straight ahead and its around 100m up on the left.
It's signposted at the's staff around the place... along with 100s of others doing the exam.
    Good luck!

    Thought they were grand...
ran outta time for the numerical one but am thinkin most people probably did as I was moving pretty fast..
seems crazy to have so many people sitting the tests for so few jobs!

Yeah I ran outta time for the numerical test too, think i got to about question 30 of 37 so i missed out on the last 7. I enjoyed the job simulation questions, I would love to know which answers are awarded the highest marks.

How long will it be before the results are posted?

My Contract with the HSE Ends tomorrow, I was just a regular Clerical Officer, but let me tell you it was the best job I ever had, and I am very bummed it's ending.

Fantastic job. Pay, to be fair, is only so-so, but the enviroment, co-workers and general work buzz was absolutely brilliant. For once in my life I didn't mind getting up on Monday Mornings. :(

    Probably in about 2-3 years.
