you need the eeprom backup from the xbox it came from. You can then generate the specific unlock code for that HD (which is based on a key on the eeprom and the HD serial number) using a program called liveinfo (beta 3).

if you used configmagic to lock/unlock the drive at any stage then it sets a master password of TEAMASSEMBLY

if you used xboxhdm at any stage to unlock/lock the drive then it sets a master password of XBOXSCENE

you can only use atapwd.exe (dos utility) to unlock the drive using a master password.

if none of that applies then throw the HD out, it's useless (unless you find the original xbox it came in)

its a 40 gig i locked with evox but i broke the mobo installing a chip....................can i do something like flash the drive firmware or the drive surface ir somethin im desperate here lol

you may be in luck. according to this: http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/evox-3921-readme.txt
newer versions of evox set a master password of TEAMASSEMBLY as well

    download atapwd.exe here: (it's legal) http://www.xbox-scene.com/tools/tools.php?page=harddrive

set the drive as primary master in your PC (might not be neccessary but probably safer to disconnect all the other ide drives) and boot a dos bootdisk with atapwd on it and use it to unlock the drive.

    Fire up Nero.
Choose to create a bootable CD.
Fire in the files you would have put on the floppy.
Afaik, you should just be able to burn that and boot from it.

ok the unlock code isnt TEAMSAAEMBLY so i guess im screwed

okay I didnt give instructions for using atapwd because I've never used it to unlock using a master password. Luckily HD locking was also a problem for the rockbox (opensource iriver firmware) people: http://www.rockbox.org/lock.html

They use a blank password so ignore that bit, the interesting bit is that you have to disable with master password as well as unlock to prevent the lock-on-reset feature if you havent already tried that.

if you locked it with evox 3921 or higher then the master password is definitely set to TEAMASSEMBLY.

if you are still having problems then check if the drive is freeze locked which has happened to me before. a '+' symbol under 'F' in atapwd means that all access to the locking/unlocking features are frozen out which would explain why the master password doesnt work. You need to try a few things to get around that:- Enter your PC's BIOS
    - Disable All Virus Protection
    - Set all drives to 'Not Installed'

or do what I did and use a PC that has a more understanding BIOS

i either did it with the one on slayers or the version i upgraded to 3 days later not sure
will check if its frozen.........also im booting it from cd if thats a problem?

ok AFAIK its not freeze locked but the error that i get every time is COMMAND REJECTED BY DRIVE

I doubt if running it off CD would cause that problem.
S E L F X V: You should have a + sign under the S,E and L (security active, security enabled and security locked) that means it's locked. the F denotes freeze locked. I cant remember what the others are for. If it's unlocked you get a + symbol under the S only and possibly one under the F (the reason for this is that some bioses freeze the locking functions of drives to prevent you or a virus maybe? from locking the drive). I was going to suggest you use xboxhdm but that only creates a boot floppy with atapwd.exe on it...it doesnt look good I'm afraid.
