    hey

Using the ftp within Dreamweaver to upload files to a server
It connects then comes up with

    Status

    Waiting for server

    then in disconnects

Dreamweaver cannot determine the remote server time
The select Newer and Synchronize will not be available

Is this to do with my side or my host ?

working off a wireless router BT voyager 2100

    Ta in advance

Also have Flash FXP so might try that
The thing with Dreamweaver is that it loads up all files associated with the webpage and it worked ok when I was not using a router ?

It could be a port blocked on your router/firewall and your just timing out then.
But if it works with that other ftp program then clearly thats not the case...

    Hi,

try a program like Smart-FTP to connect to your web location.

My Dreamweaver was screwed connection wise too.
I fixed it and try to remember how.
I'll post later..., try a different ftp client to make sure.

    regards

    EDIT:
Gsus you ppl are some quick keyboarderz... :D

I had the same problem before too. I was just looking back on how I figured it out.

Try these commands in DOS (start-> run -> type in 'cmd')

    tracert ftp.address.com
    telnet ftp.address.com 21

If the tracert works and brings you to your server but the telnet doesnt work then there's a problem with your ISP or firewall settings.

    Hope that helps.

    ok try,

in Dreamweaver on the right hand side "Files" click on manage sites.

Select new FTP server, then type only those fields:
"FTP HOST:"xx.xxx.xxx.xxx and username password, nothing else.

try it and tell us, if it isnt router related...

    regards

Tried this and the telnet did not work ? Turned off firewall and no joy there either ? Would it have to do with anything to do with the configuration on the router ? where do I go to make sure its correct ?
Also checked ftp on Dreamweaver 4 and same problem ?

    Heya,
Have you checked out smart-ftp yet? As it could just be something quirky with dreamweaver.

You can change all the settings from your router. The ip will be different for all routers, It will be in you manual.

If you can get in and setup ftp accounts. You could create one folder in your domain and make up some ftp account and I can try and see if it works for me.

Get back to me and I'll see what else I can think of.
    Best of luck.

When I try to change the detials on the TCP/IP I cannot connect to the net??
Emailed my isp looking for my preferred dns server and my back up dns server

Your dns server ip is wrong in your example as far as I can see. Your computer is trying to contact itself according to that or your dns server is resolving to your i.p.
Your gateway should be different to your i.p. address as well far as I know. If I remember right it should be 198.162.0.1. Your i.p. then resolves to that as the gateway.

While since I did this so not to sure and I don't have access to my network at the moment to check them but as far as I remember your i.p. address resolves to the gateway and then to the prefered dns (your isp) and obviously then the net. Way you have it there the computer is resolving to itself as far as I can see...

urgghh yukky - *Hates Networking* - of any kind :o

    Anyone ?

    ip address: 198.162.1.2
    subnet: 255.255.255.?
    gateway: 198.162.1.1
dns: get it from your isp

Thats the way mine works - the gateway is 1 digit below the i.p. address - I'm assuming it's the same in your case. I've put a question mark at the end of subnet as these differ - best to check with your isp - they would know. Think it should be '0' though...

Yeah gateway is 0 can get DNS from here http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/aboutyou.ch near the end

So do I need to put this in anywhere to get a static Ip or how do I get it ?
when I change the tcp/ip to use the us the following ip address 192.168.1.2 and then choose the DNS server from the link above I cannot connect to the net ???

i.p. address - thats your computer or the static i.p. of your computer.
subnet - not sure what it is but it's needed. it's allways, (far as I know) 255.255.255.0 - unless otherwise directed by your provider. Mine is different for instance.
gateway - has to be different to your staic i.p. otherwise your creating a loop
dns - is your isp provider.

and it's 198.162.0.? (Where the question mark equals a numerical value) or 10.0.0.?

Thats what I use anyway and generally when my mates about who is a certified microsoft network engineer amongst other jazzy things of that ilk - scatres me what he knows sometimes

-*note to sel* must pay better attention :o

ok now I know where your getting the 192.168.1.1 address - thats the router config. they have a set up page here on it

    http://www.plus.net/support/adsl/voyager2100_setup_guide.shtml

Go to start/settings/network connections and right click the connection you are using from your comp to the router. in the box marked 'This Connection uses the following items/select 'Internet Protocol'(TCP/IP)/click properties/

Try setting those to 'Obtain an I.P. address automatically' and the same for prefered dns/ re-test

If that doesn't work you obviously need to manually enter the details, far as I know those would be

    i.p. address: 192.168.1.2
    subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: My engineer friend says not needed
dns: same again though personally (And I'll argue with im on it) I think it should be the same as your router 192.168.1.1 ( My thinking on it is that your forcing any requests from 192.162.1.2 [your computer] to use the 192.162.1.1 i.p. as it's dns host. That means it will look for that i.p. which is the i.p. of your router[192.168.1.1]).

ok out of that (close) and open your browser. Follow the direction in the support link below
    http://www.plus.net/support/adsl/voyager2100_setup_guide.shtml

type 192.168.1.1 into your browser address bar and the configuration manager should appear. You should them be able to configure ports etc like for ftp.

If you have xp you could try using the home network wizard..

nb: I am assuming your on xp btw

I'm not an expert on this stuff by the way so I could be wrong but thats how I would figure it myself anyway - like I say - my mate handles that stuff more than me....
